Forums - Politics - More Americans died in Chicago than in the Iraq & Afghanistan wars combined

Chicago's murder rate is actually lower today than it was in the 1990s, it looks to me like relatively it was actually fairly down to a reasonable level up until something happening in 2014 or so that changes everything (my guess is an all out gang war erupted there).

Europeans and Canadians coming into this thread really have no clue how violent US cities can be.

I actually saw a report where they stated arresting/jailing a lot of the older gang leaders is actually driving violence *up*, because the older leaders are more level headed and just want to conduct "business". When you arrest them, that means the gangs are now being run by a bunch of younger hot heads who don't really respect the "code" of conduct and/or want to make a name for themselves, and that actually escalates violence. Which is basically the moral of the first Godfather movie as well, lol.

You need to create a system in which young boys in particular don't go looking towards a gang for a family.

Yes and one way to do this is to legalize all drugs. We have to take the money away from these people otherwise it will never go away. If there is no money in it though they'll be forced to do other things. Just leagalizing marijuana has done massive damage to the cartels.

There's already one in place that involves moms and dads.  If they actually did their jobs as parents, these young boys (and girls) would be staying and support their real families.

While we're at it, let's legalize murder and rape.  As long as it's legal, it wouldn't be a crime and be alright.  Is that what you're saying?

I am sorry many countries dont legalize all drugs and dont have 100's of murders in a single city.

Murder and rape requires harm to another person. Drugs are self-inflicted, so they're not comparable.

I'd just increased the Police force to monitor the areas of Chicago that has the most crime and killings.

Yes and I'm sure these same countries have a tight power structure in place. As in they top leader is not being taken down so he's able to control things. Legalizing all drugs or at the very least decrimnializing all of them has shown to be much more effective across the board. Portrugal has already proven this with amazing results.

It's really surprsing to me that people think throwing drug users in jail would be more effective then using all that money not to right drug users/sellers but to help them with rehab centers. When you make it your priority to help people first instead of just throwing them in a cage great things can happen.

No I'm saying that we've been losing this drug war for a long time it's time to try something new. Protrugal has had great results for over ten years it's time we try instead of continueing to imprison are population to record breaking numbers.

We're better off trying something old that been ignored by many, and that's the family structure I mentioned in another post. Strong families build strong communities.  You address and tackle the problems of the heart and the role-models, and you prevent the issue we're talking about.

What this really demonstrates is one of two things.

Either the Iraq/Afghanistan Wars were so successful that hardly any casualties happened, or that Chicago is such a massive shitstain on America that it needs martial law to be brought in line.
