Forums - Politics Discussion - More Americans died in Chicago than in the Iraq & Afghanistan wars combined

Yeah in Canada,Chicago would have the army sent in by now lol

Toronto a similar size city had 70 murders

Well of course more people died in Chicago than Iraq and Afghanistan. Chicago is a city of millions. Unless they found the fountain of youth or something, more than a few thousand were going to die in the course of a decade. Duh.

About 10 people a day were shoot & wounded in 2016.

The last 30 days

2/22 had a military shoot/kill ratio

I suggest people in Chicago stop killing each other.

No I'm saying that we've been losing this drug war for a long time it's time to try something new. Protrugal has had great results for over ten years it's time we try instead of continueing to imprison are population to record breaking numbers.

We're better off trying something old that been ignored by many, and that's the family structure I mentioned in another post. Strong families build strong communities.  You address and tackle the problems of the heart and the role-models, and you prevent the issue we're talking about.

So simplistic. How do you build a "family structure" via laws? Obviously the family has failed which is why the gangs are so successful at recruiting to begin with.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I wasn't referring to laws because laws don't dictate morales.  The famliy has not failed.  It's the individual family members themselves that are to blame.   You don't blame and get rid of all law makers when you have bad laws and/or a few law makers are not doing their job.  It's the same when it comes to families.  When you are taught that you are special and all life is precious, you pass that down to those around you.  And there's nothing simple about it because it takes a lot of heart more than laws can ever provide.  I don't need laws to dictate to me how to live and believe in what's right.

That would also help but what I've suggested has been done and proven to work. On top of that the ground work has already been laid out for us so we just need to copy and implement the same thing here. Then we can start working on building famalies. You can't build famalies if your throwing dads in jail for smoking weed or catching them with a little bit of cocaine. Then making it harder for them to get normal jobs.

On top of that do you know how hard it is for drug addicts to get help when it comes to rehab? I know a girl who recognized she was an addict and wanted help. She got lucky cause she was on her dad's healthcare plan and was able to use it to get admitted to a rehab facality with everything paid for her. Without that she'd have nothing she'd have to continue to hang around and be around the same people who were telling her not to go to rehab and to stay. I was 1 of 2 people urging her to go. If we stop fighting the war on drugs and redirect that money towards free treatment facalities we could help so many people.

So which angle are you going for? That the wars there are pointless or that Americans are worse than the so-called "terrorists". If anything, this is just shedding a very negative light on Chicago.

It makes me wonder how many died in Detroit, MI the "murder capitol" of the US.

Let me clarify that I agree with the spirit of the article you posted.  So thank you for your clarification.  Now, I believe prisons were made for punishment.  That doesn't mean a person cannot be rehabilitated through prison which is another issue in itself.  But what I am saying is that when you have a support group for those who have problems whether it substance abuse , sexual addiction, or whatever, it serves as an avenue to possibly address the real problem.  With that being said, the family is that preventive support group provided that the members are supportive to begin with.  I raise my daughter to do good regardless of how imperfect I am.  Hopefully, she'll learn from my successes and mistakes so she can be better than me in turn better to others.  And if she goes "astray" for whatever reasons, there are support group to help her get back on track.  So long story short, I think I understand where you are coming from now that you're explained yourself further.
