Forums - Sony - Sony AM DEAD in Japan....WHY?

Nice read, good thoughts. I agree. Sony really needs some Japanese-esque games now. That is the main reason it is closing in on 360 sales. If all of the JRPG games 360 received over the last year were to come to the PS3, it definitely would be better off.

Also, MGS4 is going to do nothing for PS3 in Japan. MGS is not a Japanese type of game. It will continue to help PS3 maintain good sales in NA/EU as they are now, but I expect no shift in Japan.

They really need FF. However, I don't expect a flood jrpg to PS3. With Nintendo receiving the MH and DQ franchises, I bet others will jump on Nintendo as well.

The problem with the PS3 is it's too expensive to really make the type of casual/almost shovelware-like games that the Japanese really eat up. And even with putting something on PSN doesn't really make it much of a system seller since without retail space most people won't really know about it and go to the store to pick up a system for it.

The biggest issue with PS3? Games. Games. Games.

Games sell consoles.

thats not true wii has less games and even less JRPGs

No, it certainly is true, this discussion is about Japan. Do you really think Japanese people wanna play Uncharted and Warhawk?

Again, I'll repeat myself, the PS3 has a fine set of games in America...for Xbox fans. Most Playstation fans, and I'm talking about PS1 guys, we bought and played Sony consoles for so long, because they are home to some of the best Japanese games out there, particularly JRPG's, so let me ask you this.

What did you mean exactly? The PS3 has more JRPG's? In America? How many do they have? Please, tell me one, so I can go buy it. If I counted Radiant Dawn and Super Paper Mario, that would make it 2 to 0 in favor of the Wii.

Or did you mean in Japan? Well, look friend, in Japan, the PS3 has very few games that appeal to the userbase there. DMC, Disgaea 3, Yakuza. This is a terrible selection of games, coming off the PS2 which was a niche Japanese gamers console wet dream.

This is all my opinion, however, but I feel your statement was vague, uninformed, and incorrect, imo, so if you would respond to this post, I would be happy to debate you on the subject.

Is this the JRPG support for the PS3 that's greater than the Wii? That's the only one I see on gamespot, unless you count Untold Legends, which I don't.

@DKII, yeah, price is a stimatizer for PS3 worldwide, since E3 a couple years ago. "The PS3 is the most expensive system" and "The PS3 is too expensive" can still be heard on casuals lips, true or not.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

DBZ bust limit should boost PS3 sales a bit, the japanese take dragonballz almost as much as monster hunter.

MGS4 should atleast double PS3 sales, I just hope it gains ground on the wii.

Given a 5 year lifecycle from launch, what would you predict is the point of no return for the Wii beating the PS3 in Japan.

In other words, what numerical lead would the Wii need over the PS3, for you to consider that lead insurmountable in this, the second year of the 5 year lifecycle.

My number is 5 million.

GAMES and price

but when I mean games, I mean party games like Wiisport/brawl or games adapted to the casual market like Wiifit/Wiisport

I think the casual market is fine for Nintendo who is focus on that with its hardware design and price structure.  With Sony though, they have to bring the big games if they want people to pick up an expensive, monster size system.  Its the software, it always is and again I am shock that Japan has not realized that.  They must be really worried about NA and Others to completely let Japan get this far off track.  Shame on them for thinking Nintendo wouldn't pose a threat.  Probably why Krazy Ken was "retired" but what their excuse for doing nothing now.  Should bit another bullet and made MH3 at least a PS3 game also.  I hope FFXIII will be enough for them to get back on track.

I'm just saying...

Folklore is an ARPG.

 where did he mention Folklore?

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Folklore is not a roleplaying game in any way, shape, or form. The consensus is that this title is an action game. I thought we were through with posters trying to sneak this title in through the doggy door. Pity for the PS3 is no excuse to bend the rules. We must do our very best as a group to maintain some standards for game classification.
