Forums - Microsoft - How many of you hardcore 360 owners want to add a PS3 to your collection?

Wow... lots of replies. I'm just not at a point where there is enough incremental value to justify the price. If I was buying only one console, I'd give the PS3 a good look. That said, I need at least half a dozen or so exclusives that are "must-haves" and they just aren't there yet. MGS4 and Killzone2 look interesting. LBP as well... GT5 and FF might be great but they are waaaay off. And I don't buy movies other than animated flicks. Upscaling is working fine at the moment. I am probably going to have to see a $299 price tag on a BC machine to take the plunge. If MS cuts their price in the U.S. soon as is suspected, it may force Sony's hand by this holiday to reach the $299 price point. Doubtful, but one can hope.

For those of you hating on Sony and/or Microsoft, get over it. We need both to bash each other's brains in because the net result is higher quality games and a constant downward pressure on the cost of the console. Just like with HDDVD and Blu-Ray, the competition was spitting out better and better deals every day. With HD-DVD throwing in the towel, blu-ray prices have gone UP. I'd like to see all three consoles stay healthy as it causes each to innovate...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I will make the plunge quite late in the cycle as the 360 / Wii fulfill all my gaming needs at the moment.

The PS3 is just too expensive with little or no games to recommend it over the 360.

Problem is I cant see the games coming. Its not just an anti Sony thing (I am a confirmed Sony hater by the way) its simply looking on the Horizon the big hitters dont do it for me.

MGS4 - have never liked the series one iota
GTAIV - Is coming out for the 360
Final Fantasy - see MGS4

Microsoft seem to have cornered the games people want to play this gen.

Basically until God Of War pops his head out of hades I'm more than happy to let the PS3 chase down the other two consoles and will buy in 4 years or so at a vastly reduced price.

 Sad........

I already did and I really don't know why. I use it mainly as a blu-ray player. Last game I got was Uncharted which was cool but it was only 7 hours long, so much for the power of blu-ray.

I bought a 360 on its launch day and a Wii on its launch day. I picked up a 40GB PS3 via the Circuit City HD-DVD trade-in deal just over 3 weeks ago now (and ended up not paying a single penny for the PS3 thanks to a "friend" at the store) so I now own all 3 systems. My PS3 hasn't been touched in almost 2 weeks. I have only demos and the Spiderman 3 BR disc for it now. I can't think of a single game that I want to buy for the thing that I can't are am not already playing on 360, so currently, its serving as a dvd player only. Its covered with a towel b/c the damn thing is a shiny, dust-magnet. My fiancee hadn't had much experience w/the PS3 (she currently owns Wii60) and sat down to see what it was like, but turned it off after 15 mins b/c she said "this thing is boring". If it wasn't for the CC deal, I wouldn't even have bothered to get one until the price was damn near Wii-level. Speaking of the Wii, mine was turned on for the first time in over 3 months this past weekend just so me and my fiancee could battle it out in one game of Wii-Golf, then it retook its place next to the PS3 as a dust collector. At least my fiancee will play hers again when Mario Kart comes out. I don't care about that game. I got bored playing MK:DD. The sad thing is that of the all the games I've rented or bought for Wii, I've only completed ONE: TMNT (it was rented, and that's sad considering that I OWN Zack & Wiki, SMG, Zelda:TP and Super Paper Mario). I feel NOTHING compelling me to ever finish those games any time soon. On the flip side, the only 360 game I've started and never finished was Oblivion b/c I don't like RPGs (decided to give that one a shot and see if changed my mind about the genre....it didn't). lol Maybe its the achievements! ;c)

Shadow of the Colossus, Twisted Metal, Singstar and many others also excepted. And, these 3rd parties that made the PS2 exclusives you're referring to? A number are making sequels exclusive to PS3. Huge names; system movers. Maybe you've heard of some of them or are selectively forgetting...I don't think I'll go through the list. If they happen to come out later for 360, too bad, too late...they won't jumpstart flagging 360 sales.

PS3 has more developer support than 360 (talking about games in development and genres represented, not talking about number of games already released...1 year head start for 360 makes it apples and oranges). Plus, 100 Sony studio games in development...and a great many will be 'good' and yet crazily enough won't be GT or GoW.

It looks great to PS2 upgraders. HD becomes the norm this year. PS3 is the box. PS3 has Blu-Ray. PS3 has the edge in games going forward. 360 will be passed and doubled up in sales by gen end.

Shadow and Metal don't sell well at all.  Singstar for the PS3 hasn't come close to it's PS2 predecessors.  And apart from FFXIII and MGS4 if it stays exclusive, which major PS2 franchises are staying exclusive?

Flagging 360 sales? Have you even GLANCED at the year-over-year?

And where on earth are you getting this "PS3 has more developer support than 360" concept?

I think the price is reasonable at this point.
I will buy a PS3 just as soon as it meets the following conditions.

-60+GB
-white version
-rumble
-backwards compatibility

I'm waiting, Sony!

Amen

I am actually thinking of going the other way, ME LO and AC6 are all games that I really want, and Fable 2 and Too Human are interesting prospects for this year

See I'm in the same boat, I'm not thinking of switching completely or anything, but I'm waiting for the cost of the 360 arcade to be around $199 so I can pick it up for the few exclusives that I'm interested in. I still have a pretty firm belief that the PS3 will end up taking the cake as far as JRPG's are concerned this generation, but there are a few decent titles that the 360's got :P Nowhere near good enough to warrent the cost at this point though, I'm not going to pay for online, and I certainly won't be using it as a media player, so for a gaming ONLY console, it's a bit too pricy :(

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

X3 but add $299 price point and add 100% BC instead of SW.

I was in the same situation, but when I got my 360, it was worth it. Lost Oddessy is taking up a lot of my time, and Bioshock was a blast to play. Halo, on the other hand, sucked. I should have never bought Halo. But for the most part, I like my 360.

LOL...the funny thing is I feel the same way about those games. I never really cared for the GTA series when I owned a PS2, but being that I really enjoyed playing the missions in Crackdown, I'm SERIOUSLY considering picking up GTA IV on 360 when it drops just to play through the story mode. Thinking back on the past year, I distinctly remember 2 games that at the time were thought to be PS3 exclusive and had me thinking "those are the only games I'd considering playing on that system". Those games were Assassin's Creed and Dark Sector. My how times have changed. AC and DS are now both multi-plat. I've finished AC (it was decent, not great...not bad, but decent) and after seeing gamplay footage of DS, I can wait and play it later. 1) it seems to control just like Gears IMO and 2) between Condemned 2, Rockband, R6V2 and the new COD4 maps, I wouldn't complete Dark Sector anytime soon. Maybe I should play it on PS3, being that I don't have ANY games for it yet. I thought about renting Uncharted and MLB the Show 08.
