Forums - Microsoft - Prediction: Halo 6 split screen mode to be exclusive to scorpio

Halo 5's lack of split-screen had nothing to do with technical limitations for the XBO hardware and everything to do with how the game was engineered. They simply couldn't get the game to run at a consistent 60fps and have split-screen play. Frank O'Connor explained this on GAF on several occasions.

This is no real technical reason they couldn't get Halo 6 to support split-screen on both the original XBO and the Scorpio.

so the XB1 not being powerful enough isnt a technical reason?

Smh nothing can be lower than CoD Titanfall and BF when it comes to single player FPS... You just voided the validity of your entire argument here.... It's just impossible to make that statement seriously.... No matter how much you dislike 343 take on the story

Dude, you need to quote me. How am I supposed to see your response, or know it's aimed at me?

I'm talking about how 343 borrowed elements from other popular FPS games, and made something that didn't match the highest points of each franchise. You can't doubt that Warzone is a borrowed version of Conquest. There's no questioning that multiplayer in Halo 4 and, to a lesser extent single-player, is inspired by the mechanics and tropes of Call of Duty. And REQs are a modified version of the burn cards from Titanfall.

By insisting on emulating other shooters, 343 has gone out of its way to move away from what makes Halo great. The result is a set of games inferior to the original Halo trilogy in terms of level design and AI, inferior to COD in terms of twitch shooting, inferior to the size and scope of Battlefield, and inferior to the mobility and verticality of Titanfall.

I'm all for series evolving and changing, but they need to evolve to something better

Impossible. The amount of bad PR would kill the game alone.

There's not a lot of AAA titles on PS4 & XBO that support split-screen, but both the Master Chief Collection and Star Wars Battlefront, which both run at 60fps when one person is playing on-screen, manage to support split-screen by cutting the frame rate to 30fps. The way Halo 5 was engineered it couldn't run at 30fps. Everything in the game during gameplay is meant to operate at 60fps (though in Forge you can create things that can tax the engine enough to cause frame rate drops). Had it been designed differently, Halo 5 could have also run at 60fps when one person is playing on-screen and at 30fps when playing split-screen.

Sad part is, lots of things in Halo 5 don't operate at 60fps. There are tons of animations, texture loops, sprites etc'. Which are 15-30fps.
In Halo 5's case though, tick rate is likely tied to framerate. Hate it when games are like that.
