I'm all for having handheld games on home consoles, and vice-versa as much as possible, but I just don't care for the limitations involved with a hybrid product.

it just needs Nintendo support...
if Nitendo gives a support at the level of Home console+handheld it will be amazing. Think about this, a console whit all Nintendo premium handheld games like, pokemon and fire emblem, and alson the homeconsole games.
if Nintendo puts all their games in a single console i'm sure the thing will not starve for games and will at least sell good number... it will never be at Wii levels, but it can make 3DS level sales for sure.

I like what I'm hearing. Unlike the WiiU's GamePad or the 3DS' glasses-free 3D, the portability and tabletop gaming options unique to Switch actually offer consumers different and meaningful ways to play and share games. And with the combined output of WiiU and 3DS, Switch should never be wanting for first-party games.
I also like this part: "Certainly, graphic quality falls somewhere within our priority, but our feeling is that Nintendo Switch is a system that really has the best balance of being able to create fun and new ways to play, but doing so with the graphic quality that's still good enough while also being one that's easy to develop for."
Graphic quality that's "good enough." That's really all I need.
| RolStoppable said: Yup, this clearly rules out a separate 3DS successor as Switch will be the only Nintendo platform going forward. Since Nintendo has always made revisions for their portable systems, the Switch is unlikely to be an exception. At the moment I am unsure how such revisions would look like, but Nintendo will definitely come up with something. They probably already have a good idea what they want to do, but such designs aren't feasible at the moment due to processing power, heat, battery life and size of the system. |
Indeed

| ...Thinking about 3DS and Wii U, do you still believe in the two-screen approach? Will we see a direct successor to the 3DS?
We are not creating a successor to the 3DS right now... |

I think they mean from a consumer standpoint. They hope that the handheld & console audiences will both find Switch appealing.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
But not only that, they also hint that we will have addons that can be connected on Switch or that Switch can be connected to some devaice or system, AR/VR for instance.
