Forums - Sales - Wii and Ps3 kicking it up or 360 just dying?

At the end of each console life (end will be diff at each, and remember PS2 generation maybe over but still it sells)

Wii : 100+mil
PS3: 100+mil
360: 40+mil

I find this question kind of silly I mean how can a system that is selling more than it did this year than last year be dying? The diff between the 2 systems(im leaving the wii out because its way infront) in ww sales is pritty close, even this week with GTP boost the ps3 is only out selling the 360 by 60k or so most of the time it has been less. The 360 which lets face it really has stuck to its prise for ages(to long in the US for me) when it drops will increase sales even futher. Now if it beats out the ps3 is up for debate but the fact of the matter is it will still increase sales over last year and the year before that meaning its far from dead. As for being on 17m for ages it does seem that way and for some reason the numbers didnt change when japen was added(should have pushed it over to the 18m. Also there is the fact that ms stated a while ago that they had a install base of 17.7m and had sold 18m while we had it had 17.4 I think or 17.5 which seems to be untracked but still really close. Anyway lots to think about lots to talk about but I still think the question was kind of silly.

PS3 at over 100 mill? The thing is, their poor showing in Japan and average performance in NA would be a permanent (or at least long-term) hamstring in their sales rush. EU can't sustain it forever, you know.

I'm am betting the 360 won't sell 25m now. It's gonna really come down to GTAIV and other high profile mutliplats. If thier remaining userbase doesn't massively jump 360 from PS2, 360 is sub-25m.

Sub 25M LTD? What?!? It might be close this year, but there is no way it will be under 25M LTD.

So, given this, yes I am probably wrong. 25m should be hit in this calendar year, i.e. 360's 4th 52 week period due to holidays of 2008. But, it will die off quickly after that and definitely not hit 35m.

It should end 2008 with 24-25 million, 2009 around 31-32 and 2010 about 35-36. zOMG! Only 35 million in 5 years with no support from Japan. Every other console that has sold more than 35 million won their generation and had support from all 3 markets

So what your saying is that the ps3 is also not going to sell more than 35mil because the wii is goin to sell more than 35mil. in my opinion i dont consider the wii to be a TRUE next gen console. that said i dont think that the wii sales and the ps3 sales can really be compared that well as people that will buy the wii are probably goin to get a hd console aswell at some point.

So the competition this gen will be between the hd consoles. i believe that only one of the hd consoles are going to sell over 35mill this gen and thats going to be the PS3.

the 360 can reach 40 mil if they release a new design with a hard drive for 250$. This can eliminate the RROD which has plagued the system and many people will buy the version because it will run nicer

360 is getting the 3rd place treatment.

Sega bowed out after two 10m or so years of unit sales for its consoles. It was last place both times.

Last gen xbox and gc were really close. This gen Wii is untouchable and PS3 is finally starting to get the hype and games that should have been here last year.

MS will never do well in Japan and Sony has always done fantastic in EU. Now that Nintendo is back to its prime and all three territories can't get enough, there is only room for two real competitors.

Originally, 2006, I had LTD pegged around 60m or so for PS360 each and 90+m for wii. Now it seems that Wii is trending much higher around 130m and PS3 is back in for a good 80m. That leaves very little room for a 3rd competitor.

I'm am betting the 360 won't sell 25m now. It's gonna really come down to GTAIV and other high profile mutliplats. If thier remaining userbase doesn't massively jump 360 from PS2, 360 is sub-25m.

Your predictions are a bit off 25 million life time sale for the XBox 360. You must hate the 360. Your other two predictions sound reasonable. "Wii around 130 million. PS3 around 80 million".

BTW I predict Wii will reach 120 million.       PS3 will get to 100 million         XBox 360 will get to 60million.

^120 mill for Wii? 100 mill for PS3?

For one thing, I think the Wii will break 100 mill. but by not that much. Meanwhile, it is highly unlikely that whoever's in second place will be that close.

As I said, poor showing in Japan, and to a certain extent, NA would prove to be a permanent hamstring in the PS3's sales. Judging by current rates, I'd guess no more than 50 mill., more realistically around 45 mill. (Assuming the current gen ends 2011).
