Generations will become whacky now. Nothing like before

We don't know if that's true or not. Sony are on record saying the Pro is a 'mid gen' console and not 9th gen. We're not sure about MS because their messaging is currently in flux as they wait to see how to best position the Scorpio. So we can at least assess this based on Sony and Nintendo.

They're also on record saying "if" with regards to making a PS5, but sure. Be selective,

Well Switch is a 1st gen handheld/console hybrid. This whole generations things is getting stupid. XBO is Microsofts 3rd gen console, PS4 is Sonys 4th gen console, WiiU was Nintendos 6th gen console. They all compete in the console space, but they are so different trying to lump them together in a broader generation is impossible.

If you insist that Switch is gen 9, and accept that Pro and Scorpio are still gen 8, then it depends on when MS and Sony bring out real next gen consoles. If Sony and MS come in 2019 then I would say 15M, 2020 maybe 20M, 2024 30M. I don't think Switch is going to do a whole lot better than WiiU.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Considering its Nintendo's trademarked Generation Mulligan (last used in Virtual Boy), none. We're still in Gen 8.

Sony and MS can talk mid-gen upgrades all they want and hope it will extend the gen but that's all it is, hope.

I'm sure Sega hoped a mid-gen upgrade would extend their gen too.

If Scorpio boosts sales as much as PS4Pro didn't, they won't last until 2021 without a new system. Let's hope people start caring about 4K and VR soon.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Switch will outsell PS4 and probably PS5 too if it's nothing but more power.

Whatever lead it will have, PlayStation 5 will pass it within a year or 2.

Omg stop pretending switch and scorpio are genn 9 there not, only because Microsoft and Nintendo fucked up and are scared of the ps4 and think with a new system and or stronger system it can magically outsel the ps4 because they lost faith in the systems they already made doesn't make it a new genn.

What will ps5 be then when it will release in 3 years? Genn 10 right? Stupid logic.

Assuming both Xbox4 and PS5 release November 2019, that would give the Switch a 2.5 year lead in hardware sales.

If the Scorpio gets turned into Xbox4 and is released March 2018, that only gives the Switch a 1 year lead in hardware sales.

How big that lead is really depends when PS5 and Xbox4 launch, which we have almost no information on at this point.

I will guess Switch will sell ~80M Lifetime between all form factor SKUs, revisions, etc.

Whether that takes 7, 8, or 9 years to do so, I do not know.

How many will have sold by the time Xbox4 and PS5 launch also depends largely on when those systems launch.

Either way, the launch of the Switch is less than a month away, and we will know more as these things all become history. Enjoy your life, gaming time, and friends along the way.
