My problem with third parties is most of their games don't appeal to me. Outside of Overwatch and Doom 2016, I can't say I've been terribly interested in any AAA multiplats since late 2013.

Some can do freaking well on it like Square Enix, Level 5,Capcom, etc ... Though when it comes to western 3rd party developpers, I definitely agree. Problem is that they don't do much to make their games interesting enough for those who own a Nintendo system. |
Most people who own a Nintendo console has a Playstation, Xbox or PC as well. Im not interested in playing games like Doom on the Switch because I can pay the same price for it on the PS4/XB1 and get a better experience. They should just port their smaller games or make an exclusive that takes advantage of the Switch.
The third party support for switch will come from mobile developers, given the architecture similarity, the form factor and the fact that these developers will have a real interest to reach a core gaming platform from Nintendo instead of the already too competitive f2p or 1 dollar bin IOS and android platform.
It won't be from the AAA console developers, will be the gameloft and the like that will rise for the occasion and really grow and get relevant space in the core gaming market with this opportunity ignored by the 4k AAA developers.
Every game that has multi local and that could be played on joy-con should be on switch. seems the biggest selling point. And every game that is like that i would by on switch instead the other console version.
But the major of AAA are not like this. Not even racers nowadays are like this, is really a shame. CoD, even with local multiplayer, a single joy-con wouldnt allow to play it..
At least hope fighters, rocket league, sport games be on the system.
3rd party didn't really help the Gamecube though did it

I know right!
The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Didn't really hurt it either though, did it? |
I think that's not the point. The point is that 3rd parties are often regarded as the one and only reason for a console's success or failure, when in reality, it's a mix of several reasons, of which all should be regarded when talking about a console's success or failure.
Why 3rd parties have a hard time selling on Nintendo consoles? Because Nintendo's own games are such a big competition. People have budgets and need to decide which games they buy. Only the fewest of us have the opportunity to buy anything.
People were already talking about lack of third party support on the Gamecube. A lot of multiplats skipped the console (despite better support than more recent consoles have enjoyed).
