There was no lv 50 gyrados in this episode. My only point is Ash has had this thing for a long time, for it to be beat by amateur pokemon is just a forced plot point. Can't say that this is a bad idea though.

there are theories that Ash's Pikachu gets weaker every time they reach a new region. Wouldn't be surprised by that.
