Forums - Nintendo - M-Rated Entry?

Which of these Nintendo franchises would work best with an M-rated installment?

Metroid 94 75.81%

Zelda 7 5.65%

Xenoblade 23 18.55%

Total:124

Of their current IP, there are very few that would really fit with an M rating.

Metroid could work but at the same time what would the M rating achieve that couldnt be done with the T rating of the Prime games?

According to the ESRB:

Teen-Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language.

Mature-Content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.

So what would really change about Metroid when going from T to M? Its a game about isolation so sex & swearing wouldnt make much sense. Essentially extra gore would be about it and thats largely unnecessary, gore for the sake of gore wont really add to the experience.

I thought it would at least add to the sense of dread in most parts of the game. You honestly think Resident Evil would've been as scary if slain monsters simply disappeared in a poof of smoke?

There are plenty of dead bodies in a game like Metroid Prime 2. You even have empty husks that crumble to dust if you touch them in Prime 2 & 3 (their life energy has been drained by metroids).

I don't want any of the main Nintendo franchises getting M-Rated titles.

They should simply create new franchises that cater to the audience that's into that.

They tried that with Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requim, and practically nobody bought it. -_-

They made the Wii U and practically nobody bought it.

Didn't prevent them from trying again with the Switch.

I agree with your reasoning and I believe that adding gore to Metroid just for the sake of a M-Rating would cheapen the experience and result in an inferior product.

I feel like more horror elements would be a good way to make a M rated Metroid. Gore kinda comes with that but I think it would be cool if they went all out with the alien influence

A western T rated serious matters way more than a Japanese M rated series.

What does it matter which rating it gets? If a game doesn't get an M-rating, that doesn't mean it's a childish game, it just means it has not too much violence / swearing / sex...

I don't see the need for turning any of these IPs to M-rated.. as long as they are fun and exciting, that is all I care about

If they wanted to make a M-rated game, I think it would be best to try something new

Basically this.

They should just make an Eternal Darkness 2. It's already rated M and the possibilities with the Switch and the panic methods could be really interesting.

If we have to ruin one non M rated Nintendo franchise by making it M then I say Fire Emblem.
I mean it can basically stay the same but just add gore and boobs like Game of Thrones

Pikmin. Make it happen! Dismember those little thingies and be graphic about it!
