I'd like to see a dark Mario game with blood, killing and boobs.
Which of these Nintendo franchises would work best with an M-rated installment? | |||
Metroid | 94 | 75.81% | |
Zelda | 7 | 5.65% | |
Xenoblade | 23 | 18.55% | |
Total: | 124 |
Mario. Same general idea as Conker, but more sex and hard-edged ultraviolence, and less toilet humor.

Of their current IP, there are very few that would really fit with an M rating.
Metroid could work but at the same time what would the M rating achieve that couldnt be done with the T rating of the Prime games?
According to the ESRB:
Teen-Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language.
Mature-Content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
So what would really change about Metroid when going from T to M? Its a game about isolation so sex & swearing wouldnt make much sense. Essentially extra gore would be about it and thats largely unnecessary, gore for the sake of gore wont really add to the experience.

Isolation, sex, and swearing could be used in a God Of War style minigame where Samus.....Gets rid of some tension.

I agree with your reasoning and I believe that adding gore to Metroid just for the sake of a M-Rating would cheapen the experience and result in an inferior product.

I don't want any of the main Nintendo franchises getting M-Rated titles.
They should simply create new franchises that cater to the audience that's into that.
Why does Metroid need an M-rating? Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is pretty dark and hardcore yet that doesn't have an M-rating.

I thought it would at least add to the sense of dread in most parts of the game. You honestly think Resident Evil would've been as scary if slain monsters simply disappeared in a poof of smoke? |
I get where you're coming from but a big difference is that Resident Evil has you killing humans with real-life weapons while Metroid uses laser beams to kill aliens.
A game where you shoot a human in the face with a shotgun is likely to get an M rating regardless of gore because that is considered intense violence.
A game where you kill fictional creatures with fictional weapons will have a far more lenient rating because that is classified as fantasy violence.
A game like Resident Evil would likely be rated M no matter what while a game like Metroid would need to go out of its way to get an M rating.
