Forums - Nintendo - On IGN Voice Chat, big N will free up the SD card for VC and WiiWare games

On IGN Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast 3, it was said, that big N will free up the SD card and this will be announced at E3. Nintendo always takes baby steps !!!!

Take a listen:

If they do this, then we can run the VC and WiiWare games from the SD card.

Lets hope they support the new 16G and 32G SD cards, this will solve the storage problem.

Do you think they will also support HDD and flash drives ?

Consoles LTD, end 2009, end 2010 - prediction

Wii -  68 million, 90 million - Wii HD in late 2011 - $249

360 - 38 million, 47 million - 720 in late 2010 - $299

PS3 - 31 million, 43 million - slim PS3 in mid 2009 - $299

Assuming, of course, that the Wii's slot supports SDHC cards. Currently it only supports standard SD cards, which max out at 2 gigs. Hopefully it's a firmware limitation and not an actual hardware limitation, and thus can be patched away.

Oh please let it be true. I could really use the space. Even a 2GB SD card is four times the size of the Wii's internal flash memory. I just hope it's not too slow.

I think that was a prediction. A 'could' rather than a 'would.'

It obvious that Nintendo needs to do something about storage, but it's also obvious that they're in no rush to do so. I expected a storage solution to appear before or along with the WiiWare launch, but Japan has WiiWare and is still stuck with internal memory.

Perhaps the delay is so that Nintendo can fire up manufacturing for a reasonably priced USB hard drive. I've given up predicting what will happen with storage using reason, but I can keep dreaming, at least. :P

Would be great. 2GB would be enough for now and it won't take long before you can fit 100+ GB on a SD card.

It would be awesome. The internal memory is laughable.

The window for piracy will be blown wide open with this move.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I don't think piracy would be any worse as you already can put games on the SD card you just can't run them from there.

I am pretty sure a firmware upgrade is all that is needed to take the SD to a SDHC slot.

We won't  see 100 GB SD cards any time soon. The specs for SDHC only go up to 32GB. It's looking pretty silly now as we should have those out this year. I hope the next time they revise the spec they take it up to somethign rediculous like 32 TB or something.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

It was speculation.

Huzzah for speculation!

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
