It's self proclaimed 9th gen consoles, that trying to compete with 8th gen consoles with the spec of 7th gen consoles and the inovation from 6th gen consoles.

Windows 95/98, (n): 32 bit extension and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprossessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Then that means   a sad day for a gamer.  A generation above PS4 but with the graphic below PS4.

Much better graphics than the PSVita though. ;)

Yeah , because Vita is 6th gen and also it never proclaimed as console so it doesn't have any gen.

And using a cartridge or detaching controller, rumble or motion control are going to make games that weren't possible before? Or the splitscreen. All of that already exist and you can play today, even if you decide that they together doesn't exist, there isn't necessarily any game that would come only because of it. And that was what you were trying to push before to decide a new gen.

And what game that's on the PS4 wouldn't be possible on the PS3, but with less fancy graphics? Please do tell me.

Detachable controllers can lead to infinite possibilities. Nintendo can release GC-themed joycons for example which would make it possible to perfectly replicate the control scheme of GC games on the Switch. This can be done for any retro console or game.

And games like Arms and 1-2 Switch are literally not possible on PS4 hardware. Splitscreen on the go doesn't already exist. In fact, splitscreen on your TV is also dying out on the PS4/X1.

And what handheld offers home console experiences on the go exactly? Switch games even get a boost in resolution when you plug it into the dock.

I have a dejavu that I have answered that... that if you go the route of less graphic even PS1 could basically play all games that are made today, there isn't much that is totally impossible to be worked on there. You would loose all graphic, but the 3D environment and what it makes possible were already there.

So that is why your excuse that PS4 is just better graphics PS3 is silly.

infinite possibilities but you go for retro controllers? Guess what special themed or formated controllers are something that is decade old alredy.

Arms and 1-2 Switch? Please explain what is impossible on them to run on PS4 HW, and I won't even ask you to make UC4 run o WiiU, or show what cuts would you make to make that game possible on WiiU.

Yes splitscreen is about dying on couch. And if i'm not wrong DS already had those and some Cellphones have it as well. Funnier is that isn't the purpose of a home console (split screen on the go), and doesn't by itself allow new gameplay.

PSVita and PSP were already HH that you could plug to TV and gave home console experience with compromise (guess what, that is exactly what Switch is doing). And the one calling them home console is Nintendo, for me it's a HH that you can dock.

Well, it will be some boring years until the PS5 starts the 10th Gen...

:)

We've actually had a discussion about what to do regarding this.

Because of the fact that its generation classification is so ambiguous and generations themselves may quickly crumble, we'll initially only have Switch on the Weekly Hardware Chart section of the front page and not on the Global Hardware Totals section, at least not until a consensus emerges in the industry as to what generation Switch falls into. If it is indeed the start of a new generation then the current bar chart will only be replaced with a new one once a second platform is on the market. If it's ultimately seen as current generation then it can be added to the existing bar chart at any point.

Then you guy's need to make VgchartzNintendo. com. That all sales related to Nintendo and all Nintendo related news, sales and forums LOL.

Well you are right on that (although very few still work on Windows 95)

Anybody who truthfully thinks Switch isn't 9th gen has to turn to the past of what defines a generation. It's not graphics, or games, or power. It's the fact that it's schematically a brand new console different than its predecessor or totally new in existence. Case and point, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Turbografx. Genesis and SNES were much more powerful and more capable than the Turbografx, but it's still considered a 4th generation console. If Scorpio is just an upgrade that plays Xbox One games...do we call that "Not 9th gen" as well?

However as others have pointed out, Generations are about to become so blurred, it doesn't even matter anymore. I'm predicting that Generations won't be around like we knew them and I'd been saying this for some time. It's just how technology is going and agendas change, we won't have "Generations" in the future.
