X and Y felt like a long awaited reboot. 3D pokemon and NPC models were used for the first time in a main series game. the grid became optional. pokemon were able to become more complex due to ditching the limitations of sprites. the story wasnt the best, but it was on the same level of Red and Blue. and it opened the door for tons of new mechanics and methods to enhance the games. and as an added bonus, Gen VI became a shiny hunter's dream 2 new hunting methods, and 1 old method from Gen IV. that being said, the games were not without flaws.
Sun and Moon just refined and polished everything from X and Y and it become one of the most solid pokemon games ever. the grid was removed completely. the National Dex was moved to the pokemon bank, making completing the pokedex possible for new players. we got something besides gyms, which was a breath of fresh air. i would be happy knowing these games became the best selling 3DS titles. people have slowly turning their backs on the newer games, but these have the potential to show people that pokemon hasnt burned out yet.
