Forums - Nintendo - What they're doing with Breath of the Wild should've did the same with Skyward Sword

well your problem isn't with Skyward Sword per say, its mostly with the Wii in general as a large number of games required motion controls (just discussing Zelda, the Wii port of Twilight Princess required it too).

Obviously motion controls alienated some people (me) but others clearly liked it. So I think its just time to move on and enjoy a Nintendo system where its an option

People need to stop beating a dead horse. Face it, some games uses motion controls, some didn't. No point in ranging about something you cannot change.

If you look initial trailer of Zelda Miyamoto / Aonuma showed shooting from tablets gyro controls. And given the emphasis on shika slate its obvious it was based on Wii U tablet (Even map zooming was done by tablet touch screen). Now they have gotten backseat and using normal controller. Skyward sword was designed specifically for motion control and it was awful. Nintendo often forgrets what they markets.

I'd really like a Skyward Sword HD release without the poor motion controls in there. I think the point of motion controls is for the character to mimic the motions I make. Skyward Sword should keep the sword controls and add gyro aiming, and ditch all the other motion stuff. The swimming, tightrope walk and most of all, the flying, really need to go.

I loved the motion controls in Skyward Sword, but this I do agree with.

It was too overused in stuff that was completely unnecessary, such as the beetle and the bombs.

My God, I hated it with the beatle and bombs. At one point I said "Why? Why am I doing this?!? This would be so much better if I could just toss a bomb with the b button. I miss the old days..."

I think the vast majority of people felt that way. I hope Nintendo heard the complaints and when they make the inevitable HD port, they make the proper adjustments. Skyward Sword is like a AAA game trapped behind some really bizarre control choices. It's one of the few Zelda games I don't consider to be a great game, and it's easily fixable. Also, they need to cut Fi's dialogue down by like 90 percent.

Skyward sword is still my favorite zelda to date, but i like motion controls, especially when it comes to aiming arrows and hookshots, makes it more authentic.
It actually saddens me that we'll never have a skyward sword like game.

I really dislike when existing franchises are used to show off the latest gimmick in an effort to force people to embrace it. "You say you're not interested in our new gimmick? How dare you, we'll stuff it into your favorite game series so you'll have no choice!" That's what new IP are for.

I remember getting so pissed off with Killzone 3 because you had to waggle the bloody controller and turn it like a wheel in certain places. That's not the reason I'm playing a first person shooter. Annoying me with forced usage of your gimmick is NOT endearing that gimmick to me, it's making me hate it more.

As for Skyward Sword, it's probably the reason I didn't buy a Wii. I was on the edge of buying one already because of some of the Japanese RPGs it (finally) got. All it really needed was Zelda to tip the scales. Then I watched some videos of Skyward Sword, including from a Nintendo fanboy reporter, and I was out. I remember watching him trying to play it at E3 and how confused he looked, like he was trying to force himself to like it despite clearly not enjoying the experience. I'm not saying the game wasn't good but my own interest evaporated quickly.

Off topic. What killed that game for me was the '"on rail" segments on the hardest difficulty. I found it pretty good on normal mode. On the hardest difficulty, it was on pace to be an all-time FPS fav. Then the on rails shit started. Skill is required, but more than than that, a level of luck to pick lottery tickets is needed. It's doable, but I bailed on my hardest playthrough after about 6 attempts gunning from the truck. After my hypothesis was corroborated by several players, I bailed. With conviction. On topic, I never found the motion controls in KZ3 obtrusive.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

Your title is confusing, but what you mean is Skyward Sword should not have motion controls

Sure, but what they're doing with Breath of the Wild is a lot more than just motion controls so generalizing doesn't work like that
