Build yourself a small PC with handles, you can get one for around 2000$ with these specs. I own a gtx 1070 and a 500 GB SSD and I never paid 3000$ for my hardware in Canada. Save money.

Ok, Mr. Onion

My Etsy store

My Ebay store

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Sony is sorta trying to get into PC via psnow and DS4 for Windows. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo does anything tho.

What makes you think Dual-Shock 4 has anything to do with it? It would have been supported on PC regardless if Sony likes it or not, like every other console controller to have ever existed since the dawn of computing.

PSNow isn't attractive to PC gamers. *shudders*

Ahhhh.....not sure where you are getting your stats but MS is doing a poor job when it comes to their Windows Store - W10 versions of games are doing piss poor compared to Steam versions especially when some features are blocked compared to other versions provided elsewhere.

This.
Pretty sure Microsoft gave out refunds for some Windows Store Games due to the sales bombing and the game not having a Multiplayer population worth mentioning.

"the western appetite for PC gaming systems costing thousands of dollars is strong."
But but, pc gaming is cheap!

Er. You do realise you don't have to buy a PC that is thousands of dollars?
I know this is a crazy thing to comprehend... But the PC has this thing called choice, where you choose what you want, I know, crazy concept isn't it? But it's actually true.

Well, today I just got my own desktop, the first internet-connected one that I don't share with my parents. It's very too powerful, but that's fine because I don't buy games digitally and since most new games are on Steam I'll just be getting older DOS and Windows 95/98/2000/XP games I guess.

You could always go Gog.com. Their games are DRM free, so you can whack a game on a MicroSD card... And essentially you have your own carts. ;)

Steam actually doesnt make that much money relative to consoles etc.

Also I believe the original report is counting all PC hardware, even if the hardware is not used for games

Steam most likely blows away all the console manufacturers in terms of profit from gaming.  They pull in billions in revenue with very little overhead.

Steam has a stupidly massive user base... Larger than the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Wii U combined at the moment. Heck throw the 3DS into that as well.

PC gaming will always be there. But the money is in consoles and mobile I think. PC market is extra incentive for devs

The statistics say otherwise.

Mobile > PC > Consoles.

I wouldn't read too much into it. While the PC is definitely a healthy platform, I doubt the growth is going through the roof. Asia is a big factor, but especially in the west all I see are the effects of the Intel/Nvidia monopoly in highend hardware. Prices have skyrocketed in that segment and so an increase in revenue doesn't necessesarly mean that the numbers of sold items are also rising. In fact, I heard some days ago that Nvidia sold less 1070 and 1080 than expected and that that's the reason they're holding back thr 1080 Ti.

But anyway, all I'm trying to say is let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Actually. GPU shipments for 2016 were higher than it has been for the last few years, Pascal and Polaris were the first decent upgrades that entice people.

The interesting thing about GPU shipments is nVidia and AMD don't really sell super high volumes of low-end discreet cards anymore thanks to CPU integrated graphics being "good enough".

The take away of that though is, mid-range GPU's with higher profit margins have actually increased in sales.

what if I told you these are just the same people upgrading their hardware.

Just like everytime new hardware comes out.

Do you have all the names and registrations of all those that buy each new card, as well as "new" users?.

Yes, but I'm not going to show you how I got it, so don't ask again.

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

PC gaming never died and never will. Keyboard and Mouse is my favorite "controller" for FPS/TPS, RTS and MMO.

This to me sounds like pr more than anything. The real indicator of pc gaming growing for me would me increase software revenue. More gamers means more game purchases. More hardware could just mean the same people upgrading, or higher cost of componets. As far as I know, console game sales have always dwarfed the pc game sales.

There are a lot of reports out there showing that PC software revenue is also growing.

Oh I dont doubt it. But the report states the highest revenuue in hardware ever, lets not forget that 2016 also saw the launch of polaris and pascal wich where huge jumps being waited for for a while. That it would have a huge spike in hardware means a lot of thouse where upgraders and not just new buyers.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

I built my PC because everything just wasn't as good on console. Games ran at lower framerates, the streaming, and recording features built into the PS4 were worse, and I had no ability to stream a wide range of consoles.

Today, I only buy exclusives, and bad ports (ports that run better on consoles) for PS4. And, I get to have Killer Instict without owning an xbox, so that was another major plus. It was literally the only game on Xbox one that I absolutely needed to have.

I also got the gears of war collection. But, that was more-so because it was available. Not because I wanted it.

I want to sell the PC I have now to a friend, and build another one, that's far stronger than what I need, though. R9 390X and 4790k are no where close to cutting it for me.

I'm totally sure you have thousands of registrations and "new customer" data at your disposal. I take it we're falling back on the gamble from last time as well?.

I am one of those that only own console for exclusives, play everything else on PC.
