Forums - Nintendo - My (late) Switch impressions

I decided to wait to make any kind of thread like this for 2 reasons. 1. because i knew it would be better to let any kind of hype die down, and we all know how bad hype can be. 2. Nintendo never gives us the full tory and we always have to wait a few days for any clarifications.

Joycons - theyre no a bad concept but come on. Nintendo is the company known for making comfortable controllers. The gamecube controller is still seen by many to be the best one ever made (personally i dont see it). they werent the most convenient or practicle controllers out there, but they were comfortable. the Joycons do not seem comfortable though, and i cant believe they expect people to play local co-op with a single joncon each. at least with the grip it seems like a great controller, and that should be the controller theyre marketing, not pro-controllers or individual joycons.  but beyond that its amazing how much technology fit into the tiny things. i actually hope other companies invest in HD rumble. and keeping motion controls was a good move on their part, especially when we are getting a Splatoon sequel.

Games - where are all the games? this is the most pathetic lineup ive ever seen. the launch day has only 5 games, and only 3 of those i can still remember. the ones they do have look amazing, but gaming is not a simple quality-over-quantity world anymore. people need a constant flow of new games to have the console seem enticing. the Wii U ran out of games and there are times when i leave it unplugged for months on end just because i never have a reason to use it. the same thing is going to happen again.

1 2 Switch - lets review, shall we? "video game" is a term made by combining the words "video" and "game". so why would Nintendo specifically make a Switch title where you DONT look at your TV screen? this game is a glorified Bop-It. im actually surprised Nintendo didnt call up some toy company to make this, it probably would have sold better too. but really? a video game where you dont look at a screen... its gone too far.

Paid Online - im upset about it as much as the next guy, but it was inevitable. but they could have at least made it good. Xbox Live Gold gives you 4 free games every month. same with PS+ and a lot of them have cross-play. what does Nintendo get? NES and SNES rentals. even if you continue to pay for the service, you only get the game for a month. there is no point to it. most people will just pay for the classic games they want anyways. also with that ridiculously small lineup of games, youre going to be paying for Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2's online modes. TWO GAMES is not enough to make your online services cost money. so heres the deal i made with myself - if online play costs anything over $19.99 per year, then i wont buy a Switch. i can find some other way to play games.

prices - $300 is unacceptable for this thing. right now i can go to gamestop and buy a refurbished PS4 for $250. i could also buy a new PS4 for just $300. and it can play more games, it comes with a free game, and it is way more powerful than a Switch. not to mention the accessories are all way overpriced. a pro controller is $70. a new complete joycon controller is $80. why are these so expensive?

there is also no talk of improving Virtual console, any kind of upgrade program, and nearly every Nintendo franchise is missing from the console. there are also barely any Indie games, or third party titles that will be immediately available.

Final thoughts - The Switch is too expensive and does not deliver enough quality content to be worth the purchase. Any console is a better alternative, even the discontinued Wii U. it was a nice try, but I think people would have prefered a standard home console.

Around the Network

Hate to sound rude, but you sound like a broken record by repeating the same things people have said thousands of times on the internet.

We get it, you think Switch is worse than the CD-i and will destroy the world. Do we really need another opinion thread about the Switch though? I get if you added something interesting into the conversation, but you simply reiterated what we can now repeat by heart. 1-2 switch sucks, expensive accessories, small amount of launch games, switch is weak, 300 dollars, blah blah blah. It's tiring to keep seeing this. Why don't we discuss something else?

If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. Microsoft, Sony, and PC gaming got your back.

Yerm people are too passionate to have smart and reasonable conversation about the Switch or anything Nintendo. Every thing you say is a personal insult to them.

Switch is greatest because it's made by Nintendo or every thing Nintendo make sucks are the two extreme and there peoples in both camp. They come out to bash in threats if you want a real conversation.

But, I 100% agree with everything you said. Where the hell are the game? I own a WiiU and the WiiU pretty much got killed off last year, so they could focus on Switch they said but now we get 5 games on launch lineup? Skyrim is one the major announcement?

SO. i completely agree that the price is too high for this thing to not have a game pack-in, but can everyone PLEASE stop comparing the price of a brand new, 1st-time-to-market new console with used, refurbished, or out-of-production models of video game systems. "i can get a used ps4 for $250, that makes the switch pathetic" equates to "i can get a used ps4 for $250, that makes the ps4 slim pathetic!" or " i can get a original model xb1 for $200, that makes the xb1 slim pathetic!". Again, the switch lacks value, but lets present that lack of value the right way.
By the way, you'll be charged about $30 dollars, i think, for a warranty on that used ps4 from a gamestop bringing it up to $280. A $20 difference when taking into account the nintendo warranty with the switch. So, speaking from a value perspective, There is next to no value comparing a used ps4 and nintendo switch. A ps4 slim or xbone slim new on the other hand $40-$60 dollar value difference because of that premium game title.
