Forums - Nintendo - An estimation of the Breath of the Wild map size.

The map has already been measured and came out to about 140 square miles. 10 less than Xenoblade X. OP is WAY WAY WAY off. Skyrim is tiny. It's not a large game. http://www.eggplante.com/2016/06/14/full-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-map-revealed-roughly-360-square-kilometres/

The game is 360 Square KM or 140 Square miles.

Source? Because the only one I was able to find that was nearly that large was woefully unscientific. They basically just guessed that each block was a square kilometer.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Reaad the edit. Also many times Nintendo said the world would be as big as Wii U can handle. Wii U can easily do better than tiny game like Skyrim. Then all you have to do is use your eyes. This game in all the footage we seen is VASTLY larger. Skyrim just has the player move slow to make seem larger. But that game could probably fit in the plateu. Plus Monolith is working on it. They would not need Monolith's help on something as small as Skyrim. I have no idea why that game becamne a measuring point when it's the smallest game in it's own series.

Bigger than Skyrim would be nice, but not if it's lacking caves/dungeons/towns in comparison. Gotta have some things to explore and not just empty space.

100 + shrines to explore and probably 4 main dungeons.

And we saw some glimps of few towns during the last 2 trailers so I don't think it will be lacking stuff.

XCX was vastly bigger than Skyrim.

Those are old news from the E3. The guy that made it had a vid at youtube and updated time after it saying it is a lot less than the initial estimation, iirc. The one on the OP is more realistic afaik.

looks ot be about twice as big as Skyrim

Going by the numbers in the picture it looks like it's 61.2 sq km vs. 36.72 sq km for Skyrim. So not quite twice the size, but pretty close. Skyrim is pretty much exactley 60% of the size of BOTW.

Doesn't sound too far off. However, do you know what exactly the Skyrim numbers represent? What I mean is that if the numbers are the size of the bounding box of the Skyrim map, they're bound to overestimate the size of Skyrim due to empty space in the map's corners (and there seems to be empty space no matter how you rotate the thing). The rectangle area works well for BotW (excluding areas you can't go to, if there are any), but it doesn't seem to hold up too well with Skyrim because of the odd shape.

EDIT: It looks like the numbers are probably for the map, i.e. they also include areas that can't be accessed. It also looks like about a quarter of the size is inaccessible, which leaves about 28 sq km of explorable area. This here is my source.

All I hope is that the map is fun to explore, with lots of things to discover, and not filled with mostly filler/empty spaces.

Doesnt really matter if there arent many things to do on it. The last 20mins gameplay make me worried

You mean the same gameplay we got in the Great Plateau  ?

I wouldn't be that worried to be honest.

No. The latest video gives a better view of world overall. Lets just say it has empty world syndrome

Size isn't everything, as long as it's fun and filled with stuff to do, then that's what I would like to see
