"But does it though? We haven't yet seen the main culprits for slowdowns like Blackbelly Skatepark, Rainmaker, and Bomb Rush, and who knows what of the new stuff causes issues. I imagine the ink cloud could be a culprit as well as possible AI bots increasing the number of characters on a map beyond the typical 8."

The only certainty here is that like the original Splatoon, it doesn't have problems under typical circumstances.

Given the huge power gap between docked mode and handheld mode though, that leaves 2 options:

(A) 720p on both, runs smooth when docked but has slowdowns when portable

(B) Runs 720p/60fps smoothly on both, dock's power totally unused and wasted

Yep I was basically trying to get you to realize that option A is a possibility. I don't really care if it ends up being option B, as long as the game has no performance issues whatsoever while docked then I'm good.

I hope they get 1080p docked or.... Please Nintendo put some AA on i, 720p is fine if you put good AA(Quatum Break) I also hope for #6 and better menus because oh god, Splatoon menus where trash imao.

Option B would really speak to developer laziness though, if they easily could've made it better, but chose not to for no good reason.

David and Marine brought up a good point, there could still be other benefits. In Smash Bros. for example, there's no resolution or framerate difference between 8 player Smash and 4 player, but 4 player doesn't remove stage details. We'll just have to wait and see.

That is a good point. I just hope this isn't Nintendo being lazy.

As someone who thought the original Splatoon was a neat idea killed by being online only, all it needed was local multiplayer. If it's the same as online, but with PCs in other players places, I'll buy day one.
