Forums - Gaming - Why is the Nintendo fanbase so emotionally charged?

I hadn't noticed. I mean really.

Maybe it's the threads I read but it seems the other fanbases are more emotional. And really, there's no need to be.

Weren't you emotional when you were a little kid? Don't worry, they'll grow out of it.

This thread will end well

Because they have been quiet the whole gen plus I have the feeling they are scare switch might be the last console hence the reaction.

Every fanbase is like that, honestly. However, I think Nintendo and their fanbase have always looked as themselves as the "good guys", the "purist" in terms of games so to speak, the "innovators/standard" of the gaming industry, and the rest of us Xbox or PS fans just care about fancy graphics and being loyal lap dogs of greedy MS and Sony.

The Switch did not receive the universal acclaim that they wanted and grossly hyped for (that any fan of a console would hope for, honestly) and defending some of the bone-headed moves that Nintendo has brought forth is becoming increasingly harder. This is not the case for every single Nintendo fan, as is the same for any console/company enthusiast, but that is a honest assessment of this whole thing.

...or is this a phenomenon across all console fanbases?  I don't know why people can't seem to understand that Nintendo is a business first and formost and that they do not care about their individual customers, aside from their potential sales.  What's ironic is that I see more grounded and balanced feedback of the Switch from Sony/Microsoft fans who may or may not actually purchase the system.  When I look at Nintendo fans, however, it almost seems as if these people feel personally harmed when Nintendo screws up in some fashion, and honestly it's kinda cringey to see.

Nintendo games are some of the best in the industry, and I'm gonna buy whatever hardware their games may end up on, but I'm seriously considering distancing myself from the Nintendo fanbase as a whole.  People have an unhealthy emotional attatchment to this company, and it's honestly draining to have to see all of this play out again and again.

How do you distinguish between Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft fans? Not everyone wears their fandom on their sleeve.

Well, they have been through a lot. Being a big Nintendo fan is perhaps the biggest rollercoaster in the industry.

You're probably right I never quite thought of it that way, but Nintendo is "personal" because it's like a childhood friend, so seeing it insulted or not doing well evokes an emotional response from some.

When one grews up, you tend to stick with those good emotionally childhood memories (also the bad ones, but that's a different story). For many people, Nintendo and Nintendo products - consoles and IPs -, stuck fondly, and in some instances, brought them more joy than what they could have ever hoped. Some people also have more personal issues that Nintendo (or the enjoyement of said products) could have made easier to endure.

Growing up, you kinda have that special spot for said company, regardless of it being a business front.

It's also why I'm not really that fan of Nintendo, but at the same time become overly-protective of the Gamecube, since it brought me great memories and also made me socialize more (sure, with a bunch of Gamecube nerds but hey, socializing is always fun!).

Lol, I see far more emotionally charged attacks on this site against Nintendo and its fans. This thread being another good example.

lol you got a point, Nintendo fans are more attached, and I guess I definitely have a type of emotional attachment to Nintendo, reasons are simple, their games are full of inspiration and pure joy, can make me smile and laugh loudly :P

also, the most iconic long-living franchises, connected to childhood, and of course, Nintendo's got a long history in the industry, NES released in 1983

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
