Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Offers Metroid And Mother 3 Fans Some Very Slight Hope

If you were to ask me, I think Metroid would gain from something like the Fire Emblem series if they added an option that makes the game more accessible for new players, like a hint system (akin to Zero Mission). I consider myself an experienced Metroid player and I still get lost occasionally in Super Metroid :P

Metroid always seemed like a sleeper hit to me. I think that with the right options (like the one I just mentioned), Nintendo could make it really successful. Nobody wants the FF and BB bullshit.

(Yasssss, I need a Prime Hunters style multiplayer mode. Embarrassingly enough, Prime Hunters had integrated voicechat, something Nintendo still can't seem to do!).

Metroid needs to go darker and embrace the M rating. I loved Prime as a pre-teen and a teenage but honestly... it hardly does well with the younger generation. They want Halo. Metroid is a far more complex and more mature themed game than Halo is and Metroid needs to embrace that.

It's great as it is but it's influenced by some pretty hardcore R rated shit like Aliens. All the gore on the visor and stuff, the violence game off more realistic than the cartoony looking blood in Halo way back when. I remember when people wanted Prime 4 to take on a horror feel to it.

Basically I want it to be an FPS again. It feels too natural and Metroid needs to stick with the exploration vibe with heavy action sequences and unique boss fights. Oh and if the VR rumor is true, lets play a bit with that. I'm sure most guys have no problem being Samus xD I mean lets be real. She's probably more Alpha as fuck than they are.

Please, no. Metroid is never going to be a super seller by itself, but at least it has an active fanbase that would buy a console for it.

Making it a darker game won't fix the former. I'ts like the "Metroid needs a deeper story" that ended up with that beloved Masterpiece called Other M.

A darker story could work very well for Metroid especially if it is the last full mature franchise by Nintendo. Just because other M was made poorly executed doesn't mean a more story driven Metroid is a bad idea.Imagine corruption with a more in depth storyline and a darker and arguably more intresting world. Also if you shoot plasma balls, rockets or laser  beams at enemies, something may alter about their appearance.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

And a light story could work well too. I just can't get with the need of "darken" every Nintendo game...

I agree, hell you don't even need to 'darken' Metroid, the story is plenty dark in most installments already. They just need to make another game in the franchise that has good gameplay and a serviceable story. Leave the dark grit for the multiple other Metroidvania games and franchises out there.

If Other M didn't try so hard to make Samus 'dramatic' by Japanese fanfiction writing standards it would have been a good enough game minus a few miscues. Howver the story and the story related reasons for Samus not using her full abilities early on were crap. They were trying to aim for a new audience but wound up pissing off us old timers. Nintendo if they are going to have some success will need to find the right balance of Metroid style and consumer friendly but their last two attempts have been sadly mishandled because they didn't quite understand what is the Metroid style that draws its fans out.
