Yeah, but you didn't need a subscription to play it. Also, I don't understand the "harmful to the industry" crap. I don't care about the profits of the companies. It's their job to make me want to buy and play their games, not my job to support them by giving them money just because they're guilt tripping us.

I think It could be harmful to the value of an Ip. But if a game didn't sold to start with, I can see giving it away as a way to market a sequel.

It does devalue the software.
It's why SONY's policy is different now, they changed the type of games they give away each month. Just compare the games you used to get with PLUS during the PS3 days to the ones you are getting now. There's a big difference.
Now, whether if you think devaluation is good or bad... maybe we can discuss that in a thread that will not go down in flames
Now it's a common practice but I really think it shouldn't be like this.

In theory, it isn't. But as they usually give you 24 games per platform per year, plus cloud storage and online play, the cost is pretty low.

I have owned every Nintendo console and handheld since SNES, except virtual boy. And, though I never owned one, I played tons of NES. I consider myself Nintendo fan. But, they really are trying hard to push people like me away. They sell inferior hardware to MS and Sony, but they want more money for it. They want me to pay similar money for what is almost certainly an inferior online service. They have some great franchises, but they just keep repeating and repeating them, rarely offering anything truly new.
I'm really just sick and tired of it. They act as though they're better than the other guys. But, the reality is that they're offering the least.
Nintendo is killing their brand with this totally out of touch behavior. At this point, I'm almost hoping for a quick death to their hardware business. Sony and MS are good at hardware. Nintendo is not. They just need to make games, as it's the only thing they have left that they do well.
I'm tired of jumping through hoops to play Mario and Zelda.
Why am I not surprised that Nintendo fans are defending being ripped off.
But NES and SNES VC games aren't really a good incentive to get paid online..
