Forums - Nintendo - If the Switch was introduced as a handheld which could also be a home console....

would there be a more positive reaction?

yes 23 38.98%

no 10 16.95%

no, Nintendo is always doomed 6 10.17%

who cares,it has zelda 5 8.47%

it would be the same reaction 14 23.73%

Total:58

If it was shown this way, would you be more impressed with its capabilities?

I would and the only detraction would be it being a handheld costing 300$ (and no pokemon,at least not yet)

P.S. this is my first thread, so help me if ive done anything wrong, thanks :)

It should have been marketed that way. I want to slap Nintendo for not marketing it that way. Thinking of this console as the successor to 3DS but able to attach to a television sounds way more appealing than calling it a successor to Wii U. It would make the most marketing sense to stay as far away from Wii U as possible anyway.

However, if they marketed it that way, $300 would seem more outrageous than it already sounds and people would be put off of buying it unless it came out with Monster Hunter in Japan and like five Rockstar titles in America.

It's a great handheld and a lacklustre console but they had to sell the €300 price with something. Considering most people think that's cheap for a new console and really expensive for a handheld the marketing makes sense.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Considering that the majority of buyers will use it as a handheld I don't think it matters what Nintendo pretends it is.

remove the joy cons(add a normal 3ds like controller, but better) and the dock  price drops to 200$.

Zelda and Mario alone are going to help do this, a mainline pokemon early game next year would be a home run.

But would the perfomance of the console have a better reception if it was a handheld?

99% of Switch buyers do not care about or expect performance. They're buying a handheld that plugs into your TV.

I would have liked that better. To me a $399.99 Switch Phone, and a $299.99 Switch Handheld/Multimedia player would have been cool. What we have instead is an overpriced games device. For what I saw, this should be a $199.99 product. I will pick it up this holiday if it is available for $249.99 or $299.99 with Mario. At launch I just can't justify what they showed today.

No, the thing looks too bulky to be a proper handheld. As it stands, it fails as a home console (underpowered) and as a handheld (unless you like carrying around something akin to the Wii U gamepad).
