Some might have predicted 600k for GT5:P, but even the optimistic Leo-j had hardware at 150-200k.
The reason why some think GT5P is undertracked is b/c of the 1 million retailer pre-order with most online sites sold out.

Statistical tie this week.
No matter how much Nintendo should have won for being supply constrained in America, it's their fault for not having the demand figured out 1 yo and 4 months after launch.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

No one ever claimed that a game launch wouldn't increase PS3 sales, they claimed it wouldn't significantly increase them. This is really not that much of an increase either, though in all fairness it wasn't much of a game launch either.
What I'm more amused by is the fact that GT5P allegedly had 1 million pre-orders in Others yet sold only a third of that.

Always nice to see someone who prefers one console but is able to see when other consoles do well. Wii will definitely win overall, as you've said, but it's still a good week for the PS3.

Not everyone picks up their game on day one. And didn't GT5:P only have 2 days on the chart?

It all depends on what you would define as significant. To some, being that close to the Wii's sales is pretty significant. To others, it's still a blip. Is significant at least doubling sales? Or is it an expected number increase?

Well what do you expect? If they wanted to reach demand at launch they would have had to make over 25 million Wii's.

| leo-j said: The most impressive thing is that one is $249.99 and the other is 400 dollars, I find that strange that the expensive one can sell on par with the cheap system. I can only imagine when the PS3 is $299.99, will the wii outsell it then? |
Well Leo thats the problem right there. The PS3 ISNT selling on par with the Wii (I.E. a cheap system). The PS3 released a big game and SPIKED up temporarily CLOSE to the Wii for a small period of time while the Wii is SUPPLY CONSTRAINED.
When that many things need to line up and fall in place for the PS3 to get a measly 20k edge, that does NOT QUALIFY AS SELLING ON PAR WITH THE WII.
The most that you could gleen from this is that when the PS3 is $299 if the Wii is still $249 (which would mean it was still selling out) that the PS3 might be able to outsell the Wii if it releases one of its hugest games while the Wii is supply constrained. Is that REALLY that impressive? Its when you try and pass a small achievement off as a clear and distinct long term triumph when its clearly temporary that people jump all over you. We had this same thing during the N64 and PS1 days. A big N64 game would come out and put Ninty in #1 for a bit and people would lose their mind.

So the PS3 sales being that close to the Wii's sales on an off week for Nintendo is impressive? I thought this game was suppossed to be lightning in a bottle even for a demo.
Also if you think this site is undertracking a game by over 600k, then you just need to go to a different site, I'm sorry. Somehow this doesn't cross me as the kind of game you pre-order then pick up one to two weeks later either.
@leo-j
It's not impressive at all that the ps3 is almost selling on par with the wii this week. the 150 dollar difference is nothing, the ps3 is a better deal, because of the bluRay player (obviously). I would predict that the ps3 would sell on par with the wii or more in the future, because of the bluRay player.
I also think that the sales are increasing because of bluRay being victorious in the format war, and that big title release have a small impact on its sales.
*Yes i love the bluRay player. I bought a 40gig ps3 for the bluRay!
