Forums - Sony - Why does the PS3 suck so much...

Oh my goodness, a E2140 runs at 1.6GHz that can't run crap, add with that a 8600GT and you still wouldnt be able to run very man games at decent settings, seriously, why don't you learn about computers and come back after you have.

Lmao most games require a pentium 4 at 2.5ghz up. A e2140 could do double that. It rivals alot of pentium Ds at stock speed, and if you go look at benchmarks you will see this. You are forgetting the pc has the bandwidth to do all of those resolutions the ps3 can't, the graphics card I linked you to uses dx10, and has shader model 4.0 which I believe the ps3 has 3.0, Don't mark my words though. So please there are many reasons why my hypothetical pc could outperform the ps3.

Oh and if you don't believe me about the pentium dual core here are some benchmarks. http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/Intel_Pentium_E2140_Dual_Core_Processor/?page=5

That is why I added the operating system in the cost. The processor is good enough for all games. I meant to put 8500gt you could get an 8400gs for about $30. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122023 that is more than enough to outperform the ps3s gpu. I didn't say it was  a better deal rather than It could produce better graphics.

You can't compare a PC to a Console. They are way to different. While statistically that computer might be as good, put a 8400GS or a 8500GT in a PC, and run UT3 at the same resolution and visual setting the PS3 is at, and see how crappy it looks in comparison. (I bet you get 10-15 fps)

When you have closed hardware, and a light OS, you can get a lot more out of a system.

This will be my final response as I do not wish to change the topic of this thread. That "Pentium 4 2.5Ghz" is the MINIMUM, meaning to run at MINIMUM settings. Add into that, Vista is a RESOURCE HOG. Your hypothetical PC might look ok to you on paper, but it wouldn't do nearly as well as you think. Simple fact, the PS3 is the better deal unless you're willing to spend around $650 on a new PC, or $1000 for an equivalently featured PC.

retarded tiles like that, yet some of you wonder why this place is seen as a wii fanboy site.

Yes, and when the processor does twice the minimum that doesn't mean anything? Vista is only a recouce hog if you don't know how to handle it. There are many tweaks to get performance similar to xp. How bout we don't use vista then. Let's say we buy xp. You also are denying the fact that the pc has memory far faster( by bandwidth rather than clock speed) , and more of it. That is why most of these high resolutions are able to be pulled off on pc better than the ps3 in raw performance for gaming.

@ TheRealMafoo, I ran that game on my pc on med @ 1440x900 when I had my 8600gt.

This is very true. Vista hogs a lot of resources. An OS is running a lot more than something as light as the PS3's XMB. Just having the OS running in the background like that takes away from the quality some.

It's funny that many Sony fanboys yell that the PS3 is "teh HD roxxorz" and the Wii sucks because it's low-res, while there are many PS3 games that run in similar resolutions as the Wii.

It makes me chuckle.
I would like to see this PS3 game that runs at Wii resolution...

My Wii runs in resolution 852x576 (PAL). About all first and second party games run at this res, as well as most third party games. That's almost at the same resolution as the following games from the OP:

Call of Duty 4
Conan (demo)
Jericho (demo)
MX vs ATV (demo)
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground
WWE 08

In fact, WWE 08 even runs at a lower resolution than most Wii games...

Cause it got raped by the Wii.

Except that the same principle used by the PS3 and XBox360 (and PS1/2 and GC and XBox) apply to the Wii.  PS1/PS2 games hardly ever rendered at 640x480, the NTSC resolution.  Almost every game is rendered at a lower resolution, then upscaled.  Most Wii games are rendered at under 640x480.  It's widescreen is anamorphic, like DVDs.  From the same forum (Beyond3D), SMG and MP3 both get rendered at about 640x448 or something around that.
