Forums - Gaming - GDC poll: Only 3% of developers currently developing games for Switch

Definitely not a good sign.

Let's wait and see how the presentation is going to be. So far the first trailer of Nintendo Switch was underwhelming imo. Nintendo will have to present a very strong presentation if they want to convince me. I doubt that this will happen but I am ready to be surprised. People just shouldn't get their hopes to high.

It'll change if Switch takes off. I also assume most of these are indie devs that probably don't have access to Switch Dev kits either.

At GDC?

All devs will be there.

The "it'll change if Switch takes off" is not a great stragegy either. The Switch won't take off that well if there isn't third party support in the first year. And the developers won't magically develop a game for Switch in a few months after the launch if they're not working on it already. The "let's all wait to see if it sells first" is a great way for a product to never really take off.

So there are like 1,000 devs, that means 300?

Don't you have a small issue with percentages? :P

So about the same as the ps3. Cool.

1000 x .03 = 30

Pretty much what I expected. I think Switch will be a very Nintendo-focusesd console, with the usual third party support from some Japanese devs, and maybe, some games like FIFA, NBA... to appeal the mass market. I think that's enough, and third party support wouldn't do anything to Switch's sucess.

Doesn't 135 developers seem just fine considering that only a select amount were surveyed, that the reveal event hasn't even taken place yet, and that there are no sales or even access to the console for most developers? I can see it achieving 15-20% in a year's time when sales kick off and the initial push is over. Let's not forget that gaming on the go will only truly be available on Nintendo's next platform (Out of the big 3) and developers of all kinds will want to offer portable versions of their games because they know consumers very much like that option.

What nintendo doesn't get, and which is something that both sony and MS has done at some point in their history, is that at some point you have tp money hat the hell out of devs to just have your platform be supported. This isn't even talking about exclusivity, I am talking about just support. Sony did it with the PS1, MS did it with the 360....

Untill nintendo is ready to do something like throw $50 at take 2 for a GTA port with maybe 3 week early DLC, then they aren't going to be getting a lot of third party support.

relooking at the numbers, it's very strange.

Find it hard to believe that all of these devices have more developers developing for them than the 3DS does.
Xbox 360
Playstation 3
Playstation Vita
Wi U

I don't think there were too many big or small Japanese devs that make 3DS games present. I looked at the session scheduler to see the speakers and there were a few from Square Enix and Capcom but that was about it.
