What I hate more than anything is how people suddenly think Scalebound was the second coming. I admit I wanted to buy it but it was really going to be a blind purchase. After the announcement, I went to Scalebound videos to see what people thought about it. It was mildly positive. Now, everyone so pissed because "This was the game that was going to make me buy an Xbox One". Either that or I see comments from other fanbases laughing at other's misfortunes.

I was hurt when Silent Hills was cancelled but it wasn't the end of the world. Neither is this.

I didn't think anyone wanted it. I then saw a "what game are you most waiting for on xbox one" thread. I think I saw at least 20 people say Scalebound.

It was very surprising to me.

I was one of them! Mostly because I couldn't think of another game. I think Mass Effect topped my list, though.

I believe Rolstoppable made the case that most people that mentioned it - did it because they couldn't think of another game. So it may be that no one was actually interested in it - they just couldn't name another.

Which would probably speak more to peoples disappointment in losing a game than losing scalebound. If there are so few games that someone chooses one they don't actually like that is more a bigger problem then the cancelling of the game.

It was an exclusive title from a renowned dev, in a genre that the XBO is in need of. I'm not surprised it's cancellation has been met with disappointment. No one game will make or break the XBO, but it had some nice buzz, at least initially. It seemed to lose traction after Kamiya started spitting vitriol towards MS, and the changes they wanted to make. Tacked-on MP being the best example. "Are these shits from Microsoft fucking with me?" That's the quote from him circa July 2015. The rest of Platinum's games seem to be ok....

Pretty much. In reality, not that many people cared. I doubt it would've even sold a million lifetime, which is only a fraction of the X1 userbase and pretty much in line with other efforts by MS regarding new IPs.
I thought it looked interesting and was kinda hyped, but I've seen far too few of it to make a better judgment. Platinum Games can make tremendous games, but also lots of stuff in the 70s (Metascore). It surely would have been a good addition to the library, but wouldn't have covered the costs in the end.

If the game looked any good, I would be disappointed that it was canceled. But it looked horrific, and MS canceling it just confirms to me that it would have been a disaster if launched. I mean, all the shit people are saying about how Xbox needs a Japanese game and this genre is barren and MS has no exclusives and blah blah. If any of this is true, then MS knows it is true, yet they STILL canceled the game. Which is telling.

I'd rather resources and focus go on to games that have potential rather than pouring money into a project that will be shit, just so that the release might check a box in a consoles library. A bad game is worthless.
