Depends on the perspective one has. For me, someone who is more often than not on the same page as the mod team and has shown the ability to scale back the tension in a heated discussion even in situtations where he is the direct target of personal attacks, is more suited to be a mod than a perpetual Mr. Nice Guy. So if you want to talk about spin, spin would be to turn the traits of entering a flame war and slamming down the biggest aggressors with brutal efficiency into a negative thing.

The job of a mod necessitates that there is no fear of going where things are ugly. Conflicts are the single-biggest reason for disruption in discussions and the primary goal of a mod team is to maintain and foster an environment where intelligent discourse is welcome and not drowned out by petty fights.

It's a good thing that the mod team doesn't think that way.
