Forums - Gaming - Battery lives matter!

How long does the Vita last? If people want the Switch to cost $250 and have more battery life than the Vita...being way more powerful than the vita...they're insane. Unless Nintendo includes a big ass battery in it. Like 8000mah, lol! 3 hours seems to be the best bet on full system speeds. Which isn't bad considering most handheld devices get around that same length. 3DS was what, like 3-5 hours? Are people really going to be 3-5 hours away from an outlet whenever they want to play a game?

I think Nintendo selling it as a homeconsole first and foremost might be an indication that battery life isn't so good

The worlds longest flights non-stop rank at about 16 hours. So that's the least battery life the Switch should have.

That would be amazing, but I'd be satisfied with half of that.

The longer the better.

RE: flights... all planes have plugs at this point.

DS was great with its nearly 20hrs, 3DS went from horrible to meh and 2DS is ok.

I'd love DS to match 2DS, but I don't think that is possible. I'm betting on the 3DS lifespan of 5-8hrs which is meh and tolerable.

I fly every month, and about 60% of the planes that I'm on (primarily in North America) still don't have plugs.

Can confirm. Took like 8 flights last year, from 3 different airlines. None of the planes had plugs.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If its less than 5 hours, I will be disappointed.

If is more than 5 hours I would be extremely surprised, this thing has 3-5 hours written all over its face which fits japanese lifestyle fine, mobiles, the most popular handheld gaming device, lasts few hours when gaming

It will be fine. I am sure of it. You can always charge it in your car in a long trip and such.

But what if Ellon Musk start to offer flights to Moon and Mars? What will we do in those????

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Yea but phones also have other things that drain the battery like LTE and GPS. Not to mention phones generally have a higher resolution screen and have tons of non-gaming related background tasks running.

I think 5 hours is not that unreasonable to ask with decent power settings like medium brightness, powersaving mode and etc. Also that the Switch's screen is 720p vs phones these days have 1440p resolution. On top of that, while in undocked mode, the Switch's GPU runs at 307 mhz which is very little compared to the usual 1Ghz Tegra X1 GPU as well as the CPU runs at half the speed as a normal Tegra X1. Maybe the joycons themselves also help with the battery when they are attached to it since the joycons have their own battery but who knows if that is the case.

(Sorry for the late reply, my internet went RIP)

I thought this was black lives matter when I first read this. But of course battery lives matter, I mean my poor iPhone 6 barely gets 4 hours anymore.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

You all are setting yourselves up for disappointment with this talk of 8 hours. There ain't no way it will run demanding games for anywhere near that long. There is no portable device on the market that has that kind of battery life while running resource intensive software.

What we need to hope for is that it charges via micro-USB, or at least some sort of cable that can plug into a standard USB charger. Then there's nothing to worry about, as portable chargers, car chargers, and the abundance of compatible wall chargers will make charging anywhere convenient.

The biggest problem in the electronics industry is the slow growth of battery tech. It's probably going to be a maximum of 5 hours.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Choose a better airline. I fly United or Alaska just about every month and have not see a plan without a plug in the seats in a long time. (100% in US, once to UK - also had plug)
