Forums - Microsoft - Confirmed: Scalebound Cancelled

As much as I don't like mentioning OBE1 (even though he's often backed up by LKD and even did a livestream with her, and the voice chat thing seems to be true based on confirmed third party accessories), he released a leak today saying that there's going to be a Platinum exclusive for the Switch slated for release next year.

It's directed by the same person who did Bayonetta which Nintendo also saved, so maybe it isn't out of the realm of possibility that Nintendo's hopping in to rescue their efforts yet again.

One of the few Xbox exclusives left, and the last Japanese exclusive... Can we officially forget Japanese games on the console?

They need some exclusive games to sell the Scorpio though... What's left? Crackdown? Sea of Thieves? Halo wars 2?

It was one of my most anticipated games this year along with Zelda:BOTW and FF VII Remake. Also, this is not good for MS Studios reputation as well as Platinum Games

Mainly Platinum Studios. They have had some terrible games like Transformers, Ninja Turtles, Legend of Korra etc. But usually their new IPs are solid and this bucks that trend. It really is a big blow to the Platinum legacy. Maybe Nintendo was right to not add them into the family.

Scumbag Microsoft:
-Cancels Phantom Dust remake
-Cancels Lionhead Studios' Fable Legends
-Cancels Platinum Games' Scalebound

... Releases Keiji Inafune's Recore ...

A good chunk of the Xbox One 2014 E3 is pretty much irrelevant now... Makes you really wonder what kind of future Microsoft genuinely has for Xbox.

Damn! This pretty much sums it up. Whythe fuck am I still gaming on this thing lmao.

Don't know why my OP is now shit... this website.. smh.

And agreed King; MS needs to have a solid E3, because right now this doesn't look good for Scorpio. Since MS owns the IP I guess they could give it to someone else. MS needs to speak out about this soon.

great OP lol.

They are in a tough position, we will most certainly see the next major installment of Halo at E3 with Forza 7 alongside Project Scorpio and its compatible VR headsets. and that by itself might be enough to pull off an E3, certainly more than they had the last E3.

though the issue here is not E3, but the long term future for MS and their first and second party. has the failure on these projects just been bad luck? has it been an issue with MS? or has it been the devs fault? things need to be analyzed and the root of these problems should be fond and resolved.

in the case of Fable legends/lionhead and Phantum Dust, from what we know it was certainly MS's severe mismanegment that laid to the failures. but in this case, who is it really to blame? Platinum are a well established dev, with a good track recored, and ability to pump out quality new IP regurarly, but how did this project fail? i personally fele though as if they overpromised what they can make, and the scope of the game to MS, and ended up taking to much time and money, and didnt have the results, thus getting canned.

Switch Switch Switch! Buy it Nintendo! Do it!

Monolith would be the perfect developers for Nintendo to pair with Platinum Games in order to get this project on track. I think that's where they went wrong, is Platinum were making something so large outside of their comfort zone with no back up experience to turn to when things went off track. Microsoft seems like a company that's so hands off when they throw money at something and check on it later it's either amazing or a pile of mess and in shambles.

Platinum is more than qualified to develop this game. We don't know the specifics but if Platinum can make Bayonetta 2 as beautiful as they did on the Wii U, they can certainly do so for Scalebound on the X1. I don't think it's a matter of qualifications for this issue.

Omg my most hyped MS game canned. Ate you fucking kidding me MS. They need to have a better lineup this E3. Also PG fuck of they couldnt even reach deadlines there so incompetent. Terrible news bad for MS and PG. Im pissed.

Wow.... I'm getting so sick of this bullshit! This is quite similar to what happened to Lionhead with Fable Legends. Apparently "State of Decay 2" was shit canned... now this? I really fucking miss Don Mattrick right now. People gave him more shit than he deserved. He doesn't have the best choice of words but he always cared for developers, games were released, 3rd party support was huge under his thumb. He ran the brightest golden years of Xbox. Sales did not lie, nor did the attach rate. Hate him if you will, but he literally was the foundation of everything Xbox fans truly loved. The 360 was in trouble and struggling before he joined Microsoft, and Xbox is slugging ever since he left. Keep in mind that the PS3 never outsold the 360 until near the very end of the generation when "The Last of Us" launched. 360 enjoyed first place out of the HD giants for 13 years. It was glorious and 360 had some top quality content that's not here today. Compare our current Halo's and Gears to the originals.... Cute.

Don't be surprised if Nintendo or Sony pick Scalebound up. I'm sure they will even likely personally work with Platinum games to get the quality up to par.

But at the same time their biggest franchises (excluding Forza) are on the decline, and they can't continue on with basically no first party. M$ is in a really tough spot right now. I still say they should keep tossing money at smaller titles like recore and Ori and hope some turn out great. An added benefit is that those smaller projects should be portable to Windows Phone soon enough, which would tie into their whole universal Windows thing quite well.

i agree. Halo, Forza and Gears wont be able to sustain them forever. of course they can always sign new deals with second party publishers to make new games. but if they do, they need to find the root of the problems they had that has made them have so many failures and very little successes. (outside of forza, gears and halo).
