Plus Microsoft owns the IP.

Do they though?

"When asked if the Scalebound IP is owned by Microsoft or by developer Platinum, a Microsoft spokesperson simply said "we do not comment on the details of our business agreements with partners," and provided no additional comment when asked if Microsoft will seek to work with Platinum on a separate project in the future."

Here's hoping for it not to be Microsoft owned IP

But if they funded it and Publish it i'm not so sure that it's not there IP.

Well I can't say that I am surprise by this announcement. The game simply din't look like it was shaping up. I blame Platinum Games, they got this exclusive deal with Microsoft and just kept on taking other contract has a developer. This game was being rushed and the scale of the project was too big for the team they had working on it.

Microsoft need to acquire some independent second party studios, that are dedicated to making Xbox One games.

The lost of scale bound is a major blow to list of exclusive titles coming to Microsoft platform. But, hopefully this E3 there will be major announcement to make up for lack of exclusives in order to boost developer working on title for the Scorpio.

Wow that's really a horrible news for Microsoft and all the fans who waited for the game. That's really a shame.

Microsoft owns it

Who knows why they won't acknowledge that though. Maybe they're currently in talks to sell the IP to someone so development can continue.

Game never looked that impressive anyway, plus PlatinumGames is pretty overrated when it comes to developers.

I never played one of their game so that's kinda what I thought. But after playing the Nier Automata demo, I'm really hyped for it.

Good difference between Nier and Scalebound, Nier has been announced a year after Scalebound, and will be the only one releasing. Scalebound was most likely announced way too early.

I finished Bayonetta I started but still haven't finished Vanquish.  Nier doesn't look like my type of game either when it comes action JRPG's I'm pretty much only a big fan of the Tales games.

MS can take a risk and lose millions in ill fated games.

A small studio could die, even if they have a moderated success - Irational Games.

And there are less and less independent studio capable of outputing AAA titles.

To be fair Project Spark did come out. It just didn't last very long.  Also I thought Phantom dust was being brought back? Like cancelled then revived.

Phantom Dust remake is still in development also and crackdown is still coming.

Phantom Dust isn't in active development, not cancelled outright but i doubt we will ever see it, as for crackdown well scalebound was still coming i wouldn't be betting my house on it.

Scalebound being cancelled should mean more sales for Cuphead which is a good thing because that game actually looks original and fun unlike Scalebound which looked generic and boring.

Pretty terrible news. It looked underwhelming but given the talent at the studio I was still optimistic it would end up being at least a 7/10, and given it's a JRPG, would be a much needed addition to X1's lineup.

I would say MS need to be worried, given another cancellation, the fact that Crackdown 3 seems to be progressing slowly, if at all, and because Halo and Gears aren't what they used to be, commercially or critically. But I'm not convinced they care anymore.

If the game was crap and wasn't going to review well, It would of done nothing to boost the X1 lineup. THe game wasn't going to be good better to cancel it then to release a broken or bad game that everyone will complain about and tranish Microsoft studios reputation.

My most anticipadeted game is still State of Decay 2, studios like undead labs that's were Microsfot need to spend more money.
