Some other things to take into account

Switch in 2017 is far more powerful than 3DS in 2011

Hybrid concept of Switch is better than glasses-free 3D

Launch/post-launch lineup is much greater than 3DS had

These things help make the $250 price tag of Switch a greater value than the $250 price tag of 3DS at launch.

Sorry but... Lol ? You dont even know thé Line up and youre already starting to say its better than thé 3ds whatever they come up with

Sorry, I meant based on the leaks we have gotten.

If they are true and we are getting Zelda, Splatoon, Mario Kart, 3D Mario, etc. year one than that wipes the floor with what 3DS had.

dude the 3DS still sells for almost 200$, and lately has been sold out at a ton of stores (Dec and January). Anyone claiming that 250$ is not reasonable for the Switch is just being silly. even if it were just a new handheld Nintendo system it would sell, especially with the hybrid concept.

it will sell.

Re-read what I said again...

I said that I liked the $250 price but it is above what I would call the impluse buy category. Remember when the 3ds launched at $250 and Nintendo lowered it to $150sh? $150 is what I would call impluse buy where a random person that is looking for something to get his kid for his birthday wouldn't have to think too hard when deciding what to buy. And that is The New 3ds XL which sells for $199. Orignal 3ds XL, Original 3ds, new 3ds and 2ds all sell for less...

Also never did I say that $250 was an unreasonable price for what you are getting nor did I ever mention it won't sell. The fact that I said that I liked the price and that I am pre-ordering 2 of them should have told you what I thought of the price...

What counters your argument is that the Wii was that exact price and was an impulse buy, 3DS had other problems than it's price with consumer confusion and an early drought being the main factors, the actual price cut didn't do anything to change the situation it was the consistent arrival of software and a change in marketing that did that.

PSP even sold at that price for the basic pack as well it is very well with in impulse buy range, kids want the latest thing out which is going to be the Switch so a random person is going to opt for that in the long run because one their kid most likely already has a 3DS at this point and two Switch is no doubt going to phase 3DS out.

$250 + Pokemon at launch = Day 1 purchase from me!

I think it's too early to expect Pokemon at launch, at least one from the mainline games. Sun and Moon just came out so why ruin the momentum? They'll probably hint it at the presentation or reveal it at E3 or whenever since it's Game Freak and Nintendo will let them do what they want since Pokemon is Pokemon.

It should do well right at launch, but it will be interesting where sales shake out after the launch honeymoon wears off and you get into months like June/July/August/September which are typically slower months.

Yea but the times have changed. One could also argue that the wii's main gimmick factored into its sales and not to mention that it included wii sports which really showed what motion controls was capable of. Where as the 3ds on the other hand didn't have such gimmick to really push the sales so I'd say my impluse buy price range stands for a lot of devices. While the 3ds wasn't flying off the shevles when the price cut happened, if it did stay at $250, I doubt it could have had a chance to be where it is at now so I am certain the price cut helped greatly in the long run.

And yea, the psp sold well but the psp didn't have competition from smart phones and tablets like the Switch does. We can try to beat the drum of Switch having a dock which makes it unique from other tablets thus making it its own category but I think most people will still see it as a tablet first due to its form factor and a so called "game console on the go" second. And of course, the impluse buy range does change with the times depending on the market I'd say.

It's meh ...

Not a great price considering what happened to the last handhelds ...

Imo 250€ with Splatoon or MK8 in bundle would be a great deal

I always see this flawed argument about tablets blah blah and such, has PC replaced consoles? No they haven't despite the fact that they can play the exact same games and are closer to consoles than tablets and phones are to any portable gaming device, dedicated gaming devices will never be replaced by non dedicated gaming devices, Switch is not a tablet it's a hybrid portable and home console where you can play games like Skyrim and Zelda on the go that's how it's going to be seen by people.

3DS would have still sold with out the price cut as it shifted around 7m or so before it happened, the price cut only gave the platform a 2 week spike, it was the software that caused the 3DS to start selling well, what further backs this is that the cheapest model, 2DS, is the worst selling model yet is in your impulse buy range. PSP had the biggest competition of them all the DS but still sold well at that price

False, a translation problem lead to this rumor and it is now confirm FAKE.

250 is Def reasonable. But the highest they can go.
Unless they decide to do 300 for the first few months and cut by holiday season, which I think would be lame and won't happen.

It was a tranlation error, it's now confirm fake, nikkei does not  have a clue about Switch price.
