To be honest, while there's not a lot of visibility to it, I'd say the team generally works to avoid
lengthy moderations where possible. I know I've been rather liberal with warnings in the past, for better or worse.

If that seems to be changing now, it's likely because of situations with repeat offenders. After a while, a slap on the wrist becomes of a wave of the finger, and it's important to realize that this attitude isn't effective on every poster. Certain users have made it abundantly clear that they'd rather the community reform to accommodate them, rather than the other way around. Cases like this are where warnings are essentially useless. This isn't a prison...it's a community created for healthy conversation, and posters that make it clear they can't handle that...honestly don't deserve the leeway.

I hope you realize that in your effort to guide CGI into what you are trying to discuss, you actually ended up being the one who twisted words and got caught up on incorrect meaning. From an outside point of view on this conversation, it's easy to see all the things you are saying here were not necessarily implied nor written by CGI in the first place.

I have never been to a site that claims they need moderation as much as this one... Honest question... Why so much? Is it the crowd? I've seen flame wars.. This web site is tame. Too many fanboys? Are video games that sensitive?

It's because this thread even exists. I have never seen a site have a dedicated "complain about the mods" thread(even though this thread isn't supposed to be exclusively about that ... that's what mods open up when they make it free to the public). It's just people complaining semantics, their ban lengths, and occasionally legitimate things like who in the community should be banned for trolling. 

The only time i've ever seen as much backlash as this is when a mod on a music site told someone to kill themselves, and when game developers censor criticism on forums. This thread is only negative because it's set up so that any small issue can be complained about with ease. 

The concept of "safe space" still flies here.

Most other places are cesspool filled with 90% of childish trolling and flaming. 

We don't want that here.
