Why not?

Well because by pasting an article it easier for the forum viewers so they dont have to visit an external site and its a way to have whats being discussed while people can have the chance to share their opinions by replying to it.

It's a form of plagarism, so the rule makes sense. Beyond that, I'm one of the people who usually enforces it, so I'll be stepping it up, now!

As for the Rules, in general, we're currently discussing what we can do to change/tidy/tighten things up. We'll update as we reach decisions.

How come? As long as you're not saying you wrote it and acknowledge that its from an article with a link i dont see how it can be plagarism.

If I upload a copy of Breath of the Wild to the internet, is it okay as long as I acknowledge that it was Nintendo that developped the game and I provide a link to Nintendo's site to purchase it if you want?

Well, wouldn't that be theft, not plagiarism?

Yeah, this will be important information to know, especially if I take over the PS thread, as I want to know what I'm allowed to do when posting news, and what I'm not.

The current rule only applies to thread creation, not post.

3. Thread Creation. Thread titles and content must be descriptive and on topic. Contentless threads and those who break the following rules can and will be locked. Repeat offenders may be moderated at the discretion of the moderator.

- Thread Content:

Copy-pasting full transcriptions of articles is strictly prohibited. Instead, you may paste specific sections of the article that pertain to the subject of your thread.

Oh, I see.

Well no it's okay because then people can pirate the game without owning a copy. I dont understand how that makes sense in a scenario when you're making a thread and paste an article with a link for discussion in a gaming forum.

My point wasn't that it was governed under the exact same laws, but just that providing a link to the actual content doesn't make copying it okay. Wether it's officially plagiarism (which I think it is, but I'm not sure) isn't too important for me, cause I think it's unethical anyway. It's not to hard to sum up an article in a few points or just provide an excerpt of the important parts.

You are still providing a free copy of someone else's work.

Isnt that sharing someone elses work instead? From what ive seen on VGC the articles that people copy and paste are already free for anyone to view while Zelda is a $60 game.

I followed the rules for posting articles. I didn't follow the rule that I shouldn't call people idiots.

Evidently, disobedience for the former cannot possibly lead to moderations despite leading to flame war threads while for the latter it doesn't even matter if the target of the attack felt offended.

Did the mod team ever respond to vivster's thread regarding proper thread creation rules?

There were mods that posted in that thread, but we didn't get a mod update this month, so I don't think there was an official announcement on it.

Just make sure it doesn't go the other way and people just post articles without any context at all. It should be a rule to have the important content within the thread without being forced to click on a link.

If you cannot get context for the thread within the opening post without clicking on a link or watching a video it should be locked. We already had a good amount of bait or spin threads that lead to confusion and false accusations just because the context for the thread title was hidden within the linked article and not the thread.

So how am I going to post that thread aboutt he PCgamer inerview with Sega per say?.

You cannot condense a back and forth into a single paragraph. That's why Iw as talking about having a snippet that had to do with the actual subject of the thread and if there was more to be read, then you simply click the link.

The site is in no way hostile to reading other site content, it shouldn't be viewed as such either.

Also what happens when you post about the subject and include a video?, if you aren't allowed to watch the video, then you just dfefeated the point of having any such video linked at all, because we should never ever have to click on it if we go by your ruleset.

I'm for not copy+pasting entire artciles on the site, not draconian rules.

I want to raise a concern: Moderation for trolling Nintendo has been very lax lately. Aren't there any mods on the team who read Nintendo threads?

Dude, sssssshhhhhhh. Don't ruin this for me.

Also, mods don't have to read Nintendo threads because each has at least one report in it anyway.
