I've gotta say, I largely agree with Rol's assessment. Abbath participated in the thread in a reasonable manner, relative to the tone of the thread.

Further, even if he posted those pics in a thread about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they just don't seem very offensive. If we're going to say that post (as I see it now, dunno if something that was removed substantially changes it) is offensive, and be consistent, mods are gonna have to hand out warnings on half of the posts in this forum that mention religion in any way.

You're welcome. :)

Really, like Politics, these things can get tricky. Not always knowing what is offensive and what isn't is certainly a gamble. Still, I appreciate having gotten a better idea of what you were going for now. For example, calling God "Mr Imaginary" is likely to ruffle feathers, but of course, context is key. With a reasonable explanation defending that view, I wouldn't even give it another look for any potential moderation.

Like I said though, use this thread as a means to bring things like this up if you're unsure. I'll have no issue taking a look (and there are plenty of great users here who'd be good to get advice from if no mods are around)!

Yes, I understand. I suppose that this is a situation of "let's see how things unfold", let's see whether I go "overboard" and say something out of line or whether I stumble upon some stricter sensibilities from someone that reports me and a hypothetical mod that agrees with him/her.

But I really appreciate the nature of this exchange with you CGi and I am glad you are there in the Mod Team.

Thank you.

Yes, the video has the reporter saying: "Is this sacrilege?" as in "sacrilege to the true meaning of Easter" and I was like: "True meaning of Easter? Do you want me to talk about the true meaning of Easter and it's origins?"

Hi guys, me again.

Pretty sure I got banned for saying Switch will be powerful enough to do VR. Think the actual reason was 'spamming' because the mods at the time kept locking the threads I made where I tried to explain how Switch could achieve it with less power.

Don't feel bad, I'm not bitter. No apologies necessary. If you can just strike it from the record we'll all sleep well knowing justice has finally been served (even though it would probably make a good Netflix documentary).

Fingers crossed Labo-VR doesn't cause brain tumours.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Easter's pagan origins aren't important. You were mocking the Christian celebration of Easter like the people in the video. The original video itself is a nonsense, reminds me of the non-existent 'We have to change the name of Christmas because Muslims are offended' stories. I find it hard to believe that the residents of New Jersey are devout Christians yet they also found it distasteful and disrespectful.

"Christians use Wednesday and Thursday even though they're named after Thor and Odin, herp derp"

Nonesense. If the ban reason says it's because you were spamming, then that is the reason.

Besides, it occurred years ago, time to move on. Hopefully you learned something from it.

The issue wasn't the anti-religious rhetoric, I am Atheist myself.

The issue came about from how he presented his stance... A couple of trolling memes, a thread does not create... Again, hopefully he learned something from the ordeal and won't make the same mistake next time.

Add something of substance that is worthy of discussion in a thread you are trying to build.

Well I once got moderated for saying that a certain fanbase that were overtly enthusiastic about their platform of choice, and extremely dismissive of anyone that didn't share their enthusiasm "sounded like born-again Christians" because apparently a Christian apparently could interpret in such a way that they might be offended by it.

So based on that, it's best to just not even act like religion exists and is something that should ever be mentioned on this message board. The only way to win that game is to simply not play it.

Right? It's like that feeling mods get when reading a report about you.

Hey, I try! Really, I do! It's hard to be squeaky clean all the time!

That's fair. Sometimes, we just have to step back and try to get a feel for the entire situation.

Yeah I didn't actually have anything to say in regards to criticizing the moderation. I deserved it with my tone. Was just funny to see that message first thing when I logged in.

You could have tried to be a little more respectful and tactful in your approach instead of being so brazen in your attack against a particular community.

You can criticize any fanbase, any religion, any belief, but if you do so that is simply not constructive and thus doesn't add to a discussion, then you will certainly be moderated for it.
In short, there is a line, you clearly crossed it, you weren't moderated just because off the anti-religious rhetoric. (Again, parts of the mod team is Atheist and thus not supporters of religion.)
