Forums - Nintendo - Will the Nintendo hatedom go down after the Switch reveal?

No. The people that are unhappy with Nintendo are gamers who want Nintendo to do another vanilla 8th gen console. 8GB of ram, 1.5+ TF, etc. and Switch won't be that device. So it won't necessarily be able to run games like Red Dead 2 or ME:A, They want Nintendo to "get with the times" which I agree with to a point with their account service and voice chat, but they want Nintendo to go the full mile and make a console disguised as a PS4 Pro and that's simply not what Nintendo is interested in doing.

Haters gonna hate, simple as that. Even if Nintendo blows it out of the water on the 12th, people will still find ways to spin it negatively.

The SNES was as "vanilla" as vanilla could get and it's their best console. If done right, Nintendo could dominate by doing it again.

Having said that, I am fine with the blue ocean. But the argument is there.

It also had a ton of tech gimmicks too. There's a balance if Nintendo wants to do another PS4 clone. And there was really nothing on the SNES's level in the 90's. There was only 1 powerful home console that had popularity at the time and it was the SNES. Now we have 2 of the exact same console on the market, and I really don't want another one.  The argument is definitely there but I don't think it'll be the success that everybody thinks it will.

Well, considering what was available back then when Snes launched, it really wasn't even powerful. The "tech gimmicks" weren't that much of gimmicks, as back in the day the trend was, that if you wanted your device to do a certain effect, you needed to have a dedicated processor doing it. After 20 years from now, having a CPU, GPU and audio processor may look gimmicky because everything will be on SoC. Then again, when we're talking about consoles and their RISC processors, it's always interesting to see the workarounds how to push the maximum performance.

You know, the two powerful consoles in the 90's context would look more like the game centric microcomputers that disappeared from the market because of consoles and cheap IBM-clones. Switch, in this context, would be your 90's videogames console.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Well if it is successful, people will hate on it more. Look at the while "PS4 had no gaemz" comments that flooded the forums despite being untrue and the console having outsold the competition 2 to 1.

Given what happened to the WiiU, you will have people going more out of their way to bash the thing than not, even if it were to outsell the Wii. What can I say, haters gonna hate.

Well to be honest it did take ps4 a good deal of time to get a decent amount of games.

How much of that hatred is real, though?

I imagine much of it is just people bustin' balls.People are seeing the same behavior from Nintendo mainly fans from back when the Wii U was revealed, I mean some Nintendo fans are treating the Switch like it's the fucking coming of Nintengod. I think some guys are just trying to take advantage of the moment and have some fun with it.

I'd guess that the bulk of the "hate" toward Nintendo is imagined.

To start with, any criticism seems to be considered hate.  If we look at most Nintendo systems going back to the Gamecube, there are plenty of valid reasons for potential criticism.  The Wii U, for example, had a number of things people didn't like about it that were absolutely fair.

All of that gets added to the collective "hate" bank.

The other major source isn't actually hate for Nintendo but instead hate toward the worst slice of Nintendo fans, who just seem really bitter and resentful that a lot of gamers aren't Nintendo fans.  They attack, like with that ignorant "Playstation and Xbox are the same" mantra, then claim persecution when other fanboys do the same exact thing.  If you're going to play fanboy games then at least stop being hypocritical about it.

The majority of non-Nintendo gamers either feel apathy for Nintendo or they'd like to play Nintendo games but value Playstation or Xbox more.  That's not hate but some people count it as hate anyway.

I suppose it's just what happens when you go from a stranglehold on the industry to the third option.  Reminds me of when a segment of Playstation fans went on the offensive after the PS3 launch, when a number of consumers scoffed at the ridiculous price tag.  It's mostly people looking for an outlet for thier resentment.  Pretending to be persecuted also helps soothe a bruised ego.

Well I had one at launch and never had a problem finding games to play.  I liked Shadowfall, loved Infamous, and was hooked on an actual playable console version of Final Fantasy XIV for the first year.  Plus it had the best multiplatform 3rd party performance to boot.

It had a better library than the PS3 or PS2 (not lifetime of course) did during the same launch window, yet people still complained.  I see no justification in saying the PS4 had no games as there was always plenty to play and if you actually count the exclusives from each console, the PS4 had the most.  Many refused to acknowledge that fact.

So you are entitled to your opinion regarding your personal taste, but that does not change the fact that the no games comments were complete rubbish.

Were you not here when Wii and DS were destroying the market? Haters were out in full force making up, "facts" like Wii did not sell games or there were no games for Wii and Nintendo was still doomed. Just stupid. It does not matter how successful the console is, there will always be haters.

People, specfically core gamers disliked the Wii because it was a touch more powerful than the original XBOX.... and it was a significant generation behind in tech compared to the PS3/X360. Nintendo core guys that wanted the same quality or better Call of Duty games or Assassin's creed games were out of luck that generation because of the technology gap. Also nintendo was a lot more interested in selling games that appealed to the casual market like WII MUSIC, WII SPORTS RESORT, and WII FIT. Which is okay, but they lost their market to tablets and smartphone games that offered a similar experience on the go and cheaper. To add Nintendo has been consistently flicking off their core gaming audience, which has caused a decline in that demographic for them. As a small scale example, this site used to be 90% nintendo fans, now it's like 70% sony fandom. There is a positive side tho, 3DS is an example of nintendo doing things correctly, but even that thing pales in comparison to the PS4s level of support from 3rd parties.

Nintendo consoles need to go back to being 3RD party machines, if the switch was on par with the XONE, or a touch under it, that would be okay, since current gen games could be ported to it at a 720P resolution, which would be somewhat okay with an on the go experiece. Unfortunately with smartphone screens commonly being QHD now... people are going to notice a better picture quality on their phones that their high end gaming device, which is not good as the mobile market continues to eat the handheld gaming market .... we'll see what happens.....

I don't care about why people hated Wii. I am not here for excuses. People will hate. End of story.

Your analysis of 3DS support being inferior to PS4 support embarrassingly incorrect. But who cares when my point is valid and you said nothing to dispute it; rather, support it.

Considering the core audience is a casual gamer that plays Fifa and CoD just because they are popular, there's really no point in your comment on core gamers disliking the Wii. Moreso, as half of PS360 owners had Wii aswell, back in the day Wii was still selling.

Wii Music do not really fit the list with Wii Fit and WSR, as it was your typical industry game. It should've been a more simple game, like Guitar Hero is, in order to be interesting.

Actually, the first Nintendo consoles that were "3rd party machines" were DS and Wii. It's easy to see the paradox when bitching about the Wii at the same time saying there should be 3rd party friendly Nintendo console.

Considering the mobile devices offer you virtually endless single player online experience, that's the opposite to Wii, I'd say it's the Xbox and Playstation audience it's been eating away and not the Wii, especially when PS4 Pro was made to defend the PS4 market and Sonys handheld market have been pretty much dead. Looking at the games on Wii U, it's easy to see why the Wii audience isn't there: there are no games that would appeal the Wii audience/Nintendo fan. If you bought the Wii, not even the Wii U Virtual Console is going to get you to Wii U.
