Forums - Gaming - Sony's PS4 Pro Sales Silence is an Ominous Sign for Scorpio?

I think MS should just market it as a full blown XBox One successor.

Why not? 250 GFLOPS to 1.3 TFLOPS is approximately 5x greater leap, 1.3 TFLOPS to 6 TFLOPS is virtually the same increase in processing power.

Make it upgradable so you can spec match whatever Sony does for PS5.

MS cant do that.

Why? because of timeing.

PS4pro is the same gen as the normal PS4, and its not that much weaker than the scorpio.

Get the ""new gen xbox" same as old gen PS4", that is how the masses will react to it.

Also Playstation 5 wont be that long aways out, and it ll without a doubt spank the scorpio in terms of specs.

Scorpio would have to be a short lived console then, if they again planed to soon replace it, with something that can compete against the playstation 5.

Stuff like that burns consumers, and brand trust.

The Pro offers more breadth and choice for PS platforms, but it was never going to set the mainstream market on fire. If anything, it seems to be aimed at grumps like myself (but no 4k blu-ray is a no-go for me until further notice).

All is not what it seems--and that's an answer that goes both ways. In the wrong direction, it says what we're all thinking, that the ps4 pro isn't doing that well as expected and sharing sales info wouldn't be the right move. If it were doing stellar, Sony wouldn't be so modest as to share how much it actually sold. So with that said, I think it's just too close to the launch window for them to share actual sales data. Perhaps we'll see data coming soon, but as for "ominous", it's too harsh a word to describe sony's tight lipped at this moment.

That would be a mistake. 5.2X and 4.6X aren't virtually the same and the Xbox One was already criticized for not being enough of a power jump.

Plus, as JRPGfan said, they'd bring it to market, and then two years later Sony would release a PS5 that's twice as powerful and wouldn't be hindered by the need to support an older system.

They'd get clobbered.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

No company breaks down the sales for each model ever. And likely best to just keep it all together so that the numbers sounds better altogether anyways.

^ this.

I feel like that could really easily go terribly wrong for MS.

Enough so Id say it would be a mistake to try it.

The Scorpio is going to end up being just like the PS4pro...... same games, higher resoultions, and thats it.

It wont set the world on fire, with its sales rates.

Xbox One Slim will still be the highest selling SKU in the console family.

But both the 250 GFLOPS system and the 1.3TF system were aiming for the same 720-1080 resolution. The vast majority of the power difference between the XBO and Scorpio will be used to push Native 4k Gaming, and I think it would be difficult to market something as a next-gen device when basically it pretty much just increases the resolution. Though Microsoft do seem keen on getting rid of generations entirely so maybe it doesn't matter.

It definitely hasn't been selling super well, beyond the launch that is. For most of the Holiday season it wasn't in the top 40 on Amazon and on Gamestop's and Best Buy's online charts it wasn't selling nearly as well as the PS4 Slim SKU or most of the XB1 SKU's. It's selling fairly well considering the $400 price and lack of bundled games, but it's not selling on par with PS4's 2013 launch due to competition from PS4 Slim.

I don't think it necessarily spells doom for Scorpio though. PS4 Pro has had a lot of mixed messaging, too few games had Pro patches at launch, and it's not very well balanced (CPU bottlenecks the GPU far too often). If MS can solve most of those problems they should be in much better shape imo. They need to get their messaging clear, they need to make sure that there are alot more games supporting Scorpio at release, they need to design it so that it's well balanced (Zen CPU or at least a low power Excavator CPU), and most importantly they need to aim for $450 at most, $400 being preferable.

Scorpio will sell far less than Pro regardless

People are really falling for Microsoft's hype on Scorpio.

Some seem to genuinely think this will somehow turn things around in sales.

For me is a sign that mid gen console will never be accepted as a new gen console especially on christmas when consumers are looking at the better deals especially when they know they can play all the games on a much cheaper console. Scorpio will sell very well but if MS fans think it will sell as a new gen console then prepare to be dissapointed.
