They need to make sure that no big Nintendo game is coming out 3 months before or after this game launch. And they need to market it well. Otherwise it will be overlooked.

Im sure a game like GTA would sell well on the Switch, but it would sell to the people who already wanted a Switch. Im sure Nintendo fans would love a GTA game, but its one of the few big franchises that would do well on a Nintendo console I think. The PS4 and XB1 are better consoles for people who enjoy GTA, RDR, COD, AC, BF and the likes, because they also get more mature exclusive games like Halo, TLOU, Uncharted, Gears Of War, God Of War etc. The core gamer ship has sailed for Nintendo. They should just focus on experiences you wont get on other consoles. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon etc. plus exclusive third party games and some new IPs from Nintendo is the way to go for them I think. If they get some big AAA multi platform games, then thats a great bonus. |
But I don't think we know that for sure. The 3ds is able to sell 60 million and it doesn't have games like GTA, RDR, COD and etc. It has Nintendo games and big third party japanese exclusives. You take those two, pair that up with big western third party games and I think they would have a big winner. Not having the big western third party becomes more of a gamble.
I think if they at least try it once after this many years and then if it doesn't help, then they could scratch that off rather than not trying it at all. Cause really, it would be a mix of experiences you won't get on other consoles + the third party games people love on other consoles.
Then again, I guess I should at least wait till January 12th before fully thinking Nintendo hasn't done something like that yet.

Veknoid, Veknoid, Veknoid... Why are you ruling out the possibility of timed exclusivity that has nothing to do with Nintendo giving any sorts of incentives? Just one generation ago we had Rayman Legends exclusively announced for Wii U, and anyone with half a brain could have guessed that Nintendo wouldn't pay for such a game and that it will also eventually end up on other platforms. Then Ubisoft specifically delayed the game to release it on several platforms at once, thus squashing all theories that Nintendo had ever paid any money for exclusivity of any form. |
But why would Ubisoft do that? Where is the benefit in releasing first on Switch and 12 months later on other platforms? I understand Nintendo doesn't have a track record of this kind of cynical incentivizing, but I don't understand how breaking apart the release schedule of a game like BG&E (or Rayman Legends for that matter) benefits the publisher.

Nothing. Why would Nintendo ever pay for timed exclusivity? There is nothing unusual about Ubisoft having an exclusive in the works for a new Nintendo system, that's standard practice just like being the third party publisher with the most launch window titles. |
probably a marketing deal. $$$

Maybe the variety is in online? I played GTA V years ago when it first released and was too disappointed by single-player once online was implemented... I sort of tried it but GTA O was marred with issues when it was first launched so I just gave up. What are some of your favorite GTA O missions?
I don't believe I ever did.

The extraction missions are usually the fun ones for me but you need friends otherwise your team might be shit.

Im sure Nintendo would be more than happy with 60 million sold. It would be great to get better western support of course. I think Nintendo are trying to reach out to third parties, but paying them to port their games seems a bit much. They have made a console thats easy to make games for, thats the best they can do other than market it well. If it sells well and its easy to port games to, then the third parties will take notice.

The benefit is greatly increased attention for the game which isn't that bad of a trade-off when you are dealing with a game that is in desperate need for attention. That's the thought process behind it, doesn't mean that the final results will differ to any significant degree between the two release options. Ubisoft believes it does, hence why they do what they do. Additional benefit could be seen as Nintendo fans being more willing to buy other Ubisoft games which certainly has merit when Ubisoft's strategy of a high number of launch window titles is taken into consideration. |
I guess I can see wanting to grab the attention that comes with the launch of a new console. Yet if I was Ubisoft I'd just launch simultaneously on four platforms and maybe even throw in a code for BG&E HD with the Xbox One version, since its playable via backward compatibility.

That's one hell of a drought then. I don't see how sinking the platform as a whole would be going to help such a game to sell well. |
"no big Nintendo game" Unless they plan to release a Zelda, Mario or Pokemon game every 5 months, I think they are good.

Yea but I will hope that Nintendo at least tries something apart from just the basics. 60 million is a pretty good number but they don't exactly have a carry device if it doesn't sell well. We shall see what the end result is soon enough and hopefully, it all works out

I'm out of luck then. Don't know anyone playing online anymore.

This was an opinion.
