Forums - Nintendo - For people who thinking that "Switch is set for another Wii U disaster"

We are less than two weeks away from full Switch reveal, and its best to wait that beacuse any conclusions, but I needed to make this thared beacus some people thinking that "Switch is set for another Wii U disaster".

So for those people, thing they need to be aware:

1. Wii U has terrible reveal, weak and misunderstood marketing, and bad naming. People even in 2013/2014 thouth that Wii U is some kind of addon for Wii and not new console.
-Just 1st Switch initial 3 minute trailer is done great and much better job about all that than Wii U on two E3s and few events.

2. Wii U concept was not appealing, made confusion and come on market too late.
-Switch concept is great, very interesting and easy to understand. It's basically hybrid that in same time aiming at home console owners and handheld owners, so we are talking about two markets for selling.

3. Wii U had very weak launch and 1st year lineupe with constant game droughts.
-It seems that Switch will have incomparable stronger launch and 1st year lineup without any droughts. We basicly talking about one best 1st year line up for any Nintendo console, with new 3D Mario, new 3D Zelda, Pokemon, great and strong Wii U ports/remasters like Mario Kart, Splatoon and Smash Bros, offcourse some other new games we don't know anything about.

4. Nintendo support for Wii U was weak because they also needed to support 3DS in same time, because it was their 1st HD console, and at end because they realised its failed so they moved projects to Switch.
-Switch is becoming only Nintendo console on market that will basically have full and undivided Nintendo support (not like before separate support for console and handheld platform). That basically means much more games than Wii U had and full focus and Nintendo attention to just one console.

5. Wii U had much higher price than competitor. Wii U had around $100 higher price than in that time very popular PS3/Xbox 360.
-Switch rumored price saying $250 that's $50 less than official prices of XB1/PS4.

6. Wii U hardware/tech even in 2012. was very old and that was not easy to work with it. It didn't even supported some engines that PS3/Xbox 360 supported like Unreal Engine 3, and for instance received Unity support very late. Of Course that had effect that Wii U didnt get some multi platform games.
-Switch has very modern tech/arhitecture, actualy more modern than XB1/PS4 tech architecture. It has support for almost all engines like Unreal Engine 4, Vulkan.. And because all that, developing/porting is much easier compared to Wii U.

7. Switch initial list of partners and supporters is bigger than Wii Us.

8. Everything about Switch is way more positive that it was for Wii U, reactions on just 1st Switch trailer are very positive.

You need to chill out bro.

Every system can fail, some skepticism was always going to follow Nintendo, especially after how badly last gen went with them.

Let Nintendo prove it, and if they can't, then they weren't worth sticking up for in the first place.

I think your right, but so far there isn't a strong indication its going to be a wii-like success either, so it will be a mixed bag and mixed bags only get real support if its easy to port to.

and those signals from developers have also been mixed, so its a very very unsure thing to buy into, altough you make some good points why it could do okay I would strongy suggest everyone to wait at least a year or more to see if Nintendo switched sales around and if third party and others will switch back to supporting the big N

I am chill, but expecting that Switch will be another Wii U disaster (to sell 13-14m) is completely unrealistic, especially with points I wrote.

Offcoures, I didnt mentione at all Wii-like sucess, but IMO saying that Switch will another Wii U disaster is craze.

Actually signals from developers were mostly positive. This so called "Ex-Ubisoft Dev" does not work on Switch and he just giving his opinion on rumoured specs without knowing any facts, hardware details, of tools and APIs.

Looks like the Nintendo Defense Force is already in full gear this year. And of course it has to to be done as a separate thread and cannot possibly be addressed as a mere post in said thread it wants to object. I guess the world will explode if there is a slightly negative Nintendo thread that is not answered with an opposite opinion thread within 24h. So I thank you for your service.

This is just answer to some people that seem they are not informed and think that "Switch is set for another Wii U disaster".

Exactly. People tolerated countless NX threads despite their annoyance. Now people have to restrain themselves from saying slightest negativity (even if it is a fact) about Nintendo Switch.

Switch will definitely sell better than the WiiU. Everything about the WiiU was a complete mess.

The real question is can it sell as good as the 3DS, or will Nintendo continue to loose userbase. With Switch being a hybrid it will puts Nintendo in a tough spot if it fails. They can't put out a new console because they are barley a player in that space anymore. The limited scope of their consoles, in combination with extreamly limited 3rd party support has basically eliminated them from the living room. On the other side, if they release a new portable, a lot of fans will already be satisfied with Switch leading to limited sales.

I have said my part in other threads. Jan 12 is going to be very interesting. Hope they have something awesome up their sleeve.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. While I think it`s definitely very unlikely that the Switch will do Wii U levels of bad your points don`t really do anything to show why thinking that is unrealistic. They`re all based on either your personal opinions or rumours and speculation. For the opinions side, there were people who thought the Wii U was a good concept and would do well (some very much so), but people thinking a console is a good concept doesn`t neccesarily mean it will do well. As for the rumours/speculation well for starters there`s the issue of whether these are actually true or not, but even if they are they by no means guarantee success either.

All things I wrote are based on all thing we know so far in evre way. Offcourse they are some people that thouth that Wii U was good concept, but far more people think that Switch is far better and actualy great concept, and thats a just one point I made. Most things that are based on rumours, coming from Euoragmer, Emily Rogers and Laura Kate Dale, and so far track record about their infos about NX/Switch was almost 100% accurate (especially Laura Kate Dale), so infos they gave us are almost certain.
