Forums - Gaming - Could the PS4 Pro/Scorpio eventually become lead platforms?

Hear me out for a second. I can certainly see this happening with Microsoft more than with Sony considering the timing. But could anyone envision those companies discontinuing the base model(PS4/Xbox One S) a few years down the line in order to funnel future buyers into going for the more premium machine in order to focus developers on the one SKU? I think MS would want at least 3 years of the Scorpio and some already consider it Microsoft's silent refresh next-gen console, so I would assume they would want developers to not be held back by Xbox One S development(different assets etc). There would still be Xbox One S versions, but with much less focus. I think Sony will retain base PS4 support given that they had a year head start, great success and will probably reveal the PS5 in about 2019 but with MS it is more ambiguous with where they are heading... What do you guys think? Happy new year by the way!!

Doubt you ll see either PS4pro or XBscorpio, reach more than 25% of total life time sales.

So "Could the PS4 Pro/Scorpio eventually become lead platforms?"
Answear: Nope, dont see it happending.

149-199$ PS4 Slim is going to make sure that never happends. (yes I think it might end up at 149$)
449-499$ Xbox Scorpio launch price will make sure that never happends.

We dont know what Scorpio is still. I'm certain it'll go beyond being a Xbone 1.5 unlike the PS4 Pro.

Scorpio will likely get it's own games down the line, when Sony launches PS5 in 2019 it'll be too early for MS to launch another console just 2 years after Scorpio. Therefore I expect MS to go all out in 2017 with new CPU etc.

I expect MS to target 2020/2021 for the next update.

It could happen in 3-4 years if they are faithfull to their upgradeable consoles and Sony launches a PS4 Ultra and MSoft an "Hydra" (or whatever) model. The power difference between those new models and the original PS4 & X1 would be too big, something that both companies would use to discount the original models, making the Pro and Scorpio their new base models.

But who knows what will the future bring us?

Nope. Both consoles will never sell well enough for the developers and publishers to even consider that.

Ps5 will come by then .

About xbone two  I think microsoft will merge its xbox with pc and battle steam with semi-custom pc operating windows 10 simulating as console, perhaps scorpio will come with a full featured windows 10 and will be exactly that.

The ps4 pro is only a filler because sony doesn't want to lose ground to pc with 4k tv becoming popular.

Nope! We don't even know home PS4 Pros out there. Probably around 1-2mil. Thats 2/50.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Mid gen console won't last that long as most numbers will come at 300$. May be PS4P will be 300$ in 2018 when sales will peak

Yes. Devs will go where the money is, regardless of how long it takes. Its a buisness at the end of the day
