Forums - Gaming - Inside is what games like Ico and Journey should have been

I don't like Ico and Journey because while they can be great experiences (not for me thou) they are not good games. Inside is the whole package - it has great visual style and atmosphere and tight gameplay. Next to Inside Ico looks like an awkward beat em up (which it is anyhow, sorry) and Journey looks like a cooperative walking sim.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

But ICO and journey shouldn't and aren't even like each other. And, judging by the cult status of ICO, it turned out exactly as it should have... Same with journey and it's critical acclaim. You change around the core mechanics and you're changing around the developers vision.

Why don't you go make another game like inside?

You are selling this game with high expectations.

Apples and Oranges. Each is its own thing. If Journey was like Inside it would've had to lose its own identity.

All great games. All distinct from one another in style, aesthetics, and game play. I don't see the issue with all three existing and think gaming is better for having all three.

co-op walking simulator... the most accurate description of Journey I have ever read lol.

Guess I need to try Inside.

Why would we want games to be like each other?

Should apples be like oranges? Should Friends be like Seinfeld? Why? I don't understand.

Besides, yeah, ICO came out 15 YEARS ago and influenced tons of games that came after. It's like saying that Alexander Graham Bell should have invented the internet instead of just stopping at the telephone.

Ick. No thanks. Both Ico and Journey are FAR better games than Inside. Also, how about we just enjoy the fact that we live in world where we can have both?
