Forums - Nintendo - Wii U GOTY for each year of its life

Almost the same as mine! Its just Nintendoland..... =(

GOTY candidates:

2012 - None, all the ports were trash

2013 - Pikmin 3

2014 - This is where all the games were at. MK8, Smash, Bayo 2, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors. Probably Smash 4 for GOTY due to lasting appeal and unprecedented level of hype approaching launch. Or- MK8 since it sold the best, although, I'm not a fan of MK8.

2015 - Splatoon, Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X - Next tier: Shovel Knight. I'd give it to Splatoon for being extremely successful for a new IP, and utilising the gamepad screen and motion controls surprisingly well for a shooter. Absolutely commendable. Mario Maker has become quite astonishing and addictive, but that's chiefly the fanbase's doing.

2016 - Probably Color Splash honestly. I don't like that game, but there was nothing else in 2016. Maybe Star Fox Zero or Pokken but yeah, truth be told. - EDIT... Forgot about #FE, yeah that's probably better than Color Splash

Some things that have surprised me have been:

- The lack of votes for Rayman Legends, Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter in 2013, I guess that SM3DW was too strong for them!
- Only 3 votes for Super Mario Maker. I didn't expect it to win, but I thought it would be more popular.
- Also, didn't expected TMS to win the GOTY by a landslide, although it's true it didn't have a lot of competition.

Thanks heaps for adding up the votes. :)

And yeah, I too was a bit surprised by Rayman Legends and LEGO City not getting more mentions, and by Tropical Freeze not making 2014's top 3.

Well 2014 was a busy year in terms of quality titles.  Smash, Kart, and Bayonetta are a tough trio to top.

That's true, I just see so much love for TF on here that I'm surprised it didn't pass Bayo 2.

Not that I'm complaining, I thought Bayo 2 was better than TF personally.

Very surprised to see TMS #FE take the win! Didn't know lots of people here played it and loved it!

Close one for Splatoon and Xenoblade. Can't comment on Xeno since I didn't play it.

Well, it didn't have a whole lot of competition.

And unless you hate JRPGs/open world games, you should definitely play Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Sorry, this post didn't enter my count  It would've tied the 2015 GOTY!

Anyway, if somebody wants tocontinue the tally (if more people continue voting) feel free, since I won't have time in the near future to do it!

Great work mate, very nice seeing all the votes and placings at once!

3D World having the most votes overall shows that it's either that universally amazing, or more likely it had the weakest competition, but come on Pikmin 3 is great!

Why havent you put Deus Ex on 2013? It has at least two votes!

I take it your just counting first picks and not runners up?

Yes, since not everybody had runners up, I thought it wasn't fair to count them as votes...

3D World definitely had weak competition; Pikmin 3 is its only really strong contender. 2013 was a pretty dry year.
