Forums - Microsoft - Best Xbox Memories?

Playing Fable 2 almost nonstop for weeks straight. Sometimes not even turning off the 360. Then came the moment where I felt accomplishment. The DVD drive laser burned out. The game was sooooo gooood that I broke the 360. Such a good feeling. Not the RROD that I was hoping for, but good enough. 🙄

Oh man. THAT was an incredible experience. Seeing everybody running around (as orbs), giving each other advice and gifts. That may be one of the best online experiences I've ever had. I'll never forget it.

When I had just got the first Xbox and kept alternating between Halo and Project Gotham Racing

PGR particularly I loved.

Also playing KOTOR I & II. It's the IP I want to come back the most

It's funny that this thread is inspired by Curl's, because my favourite XBox memory was inspired by my favorite Nintendo one. Two years ago my future wife asked what was my favourite Christmas, and I said '91 when I got my Super Nintendo. So she bought me a One and several games to recreate the moment from 25 years earlier. It ended up being especially great because my brother was home for the first time in a decade and we played Forza into the wee hours. A special moment.

A second epic moment has to be experiencing the original XBox and Halo for the first time. Playing coop with friends in university was like nothing before it and had that wow factor that only groundbreaking new experiences provide. It was like the first time playing Zelda or WoW.

Are you talking about the OG Xbox?

Since that is where people would have been introduced to some of the games you list here as well as the birth place of Xbox Live online network, but it most certainly would not have been the place which had the best controller that generation, it would have been a distant 3rd with the OG Duke compared to the PS2's Dual Shock and the GC pad.

Xbox 360! I should have clarrified, I never owned an OG.

The original was a beast for it's day, a 750mhz CPU when the PS2 had a 333mhz one, Double the Ram of the PS2 and a 4-6GB HDD while the PS2 was using a 8MB memory card which cost almost €50 at the time, Tech wise it was next gen in comparison (it literally has a higher clock speed than the Wii from the following generation)

Also the original System had the ethernet adapter built into it and was certainly the first console I ever owned which allowed a OS upgrade from the one which the system launched with (Xbox Live disk or Halo 2 Added the new OS features of online)

But yeah the controller (at least the original) was dogshit compared to the rivals, the Controller-S fixed some issues, but still had 2 triggers and 6 face buttons instead of the 4/4 which most go with today.

Playing through KotOR 1&2 back in middle school is still a treasured memory. I still maintain that 2 is a more interesting, atmospheric experience, and possibly my favorite game ever, warts and all. Too bad playing it in 4K on PC with all the bugs fixed gives me 0 reasons to ever revisit it in that context haha.

Otherwise I have good memories of Halo 3 LAN parties back in the day, had a lot of friends who were much more into Halo than I, so I would mooch off of them every now and then. Halfway through the 360 gen I jumped ship and never looked back, but I still love the og Xbox, a great console.

Going down to Funcoland day 1 for the Xbox.. buying 3 extra massive controllers, memory cards and of course, Halo. Children were looking at me in awe as I walked out of there with the only one they had. That day, I was a gaming legend and I spread the word of the new awesomeness in videogames.

Getting the first Xbox for Christmas. For games I had Sega GT 2002, Splinter Cell, and Jet Set Radio Future. My sister and I spent endless hours playing JSRF, the soundtrack was phenomenal and so memorable. I loved booting up that Xbox and seeing that almost alien-like theming. Nothing was like that first Xbox. I knew I had the best in gaming.

I'll comment my others later, but this was my first and one of the best for sure.

Played Halo on the xbox in a Mall was my fondest memory

That pulsing green heart in the middle of the Xbox console, quite the powerful looking console startup.

In comparison to

Okay I'm cheating and that is the Easter Egg startup but still, funny comparison!

Playing Halo Combat Evolved for the very first time. I was blown away!
