Forums - Nintendo - About 3rd party games on Switch

I care about third parties, the most successful Nintendo consoles have had at least decent third party support. All I want from this thing is just to pull in 3DS and Vita third parties.

At face value I completely agree with you. However, WiiU was the worst 3rd party support Nintendo has ever received.

The primary reasons for that were removed with NS (lack of specific tech support, not raw power). NS supports all the same engines and tech as the other consoles now, just weaker.

I would expect all of the common yearly titles to come to NS (madden, fifa, cod, etc) but very few if any of the bigger one-off types of games such as RDR2.

Also, there is no reason to not want Nintendo to get 3rd party support. It just makes it easier and you get NS special functionality such as portability, insane local multiplayer options and insane controller configurations, as well as smaller things that may make a difference like motion.

Its definitely going to have that.

I'm still sticking with my prediction that the Switch will get third party Japanese games like the one's the 3DS and Vita received since this thing will definitely do well in Japan and since the Switch is a lot powerful then the Vita there is a good chance a lot of Japanese developers that make Vita games will jump ship since it is pretty clear that the Vita won't get a successor and it makes sense for the 3DS developers to jump since the Switch is the 3DS successor.

Indeed. While my expectations have been rock-bottom since the beginning, I am happy that the Switch will be a pretty powerful handheld. I want to see games and know other things like battery life before I'm sold. But for what I want out of it, today's news was not bad.

Wait, Sony alone released 350 games in one year? Link, please.

I'm talking about Nintendo alone, here. Whatever 3rd party game is thrown in is just a bonus for the Switch.

I am saying companies benefit majorly from third party, you stated the nintendo-only release count as if it was a large enough figure to show they could go it alone, i used all-party numbers to illustrate that the gap between first party only and all-party is less a gap and more a chasm.

Well to be fair, it doesn't make sense to compare just Nintendo published games to all games on PS/XB.

When factoring in 3rd party titles, 3DS+Wii U have recieved well over 100 retail games each fiscal year they have been on the market together. That number does not include digital only titles, im not sure if your 350+ figure includes digital only titles or not.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Don't forget to factor in the cartridges. It makes games more expensive and may limit 3rd party support for bigger games. I'm sure when it comes to downloadable games there will be massive support. I'm personally not worried at all. I think there will be a lot on offer. However I just can't see big ambitious games coming to Switch for obvious reasons so people will still need a ps4, pc or xbone.

Also don't forget the VR side of Switch. Lots of game possibilities there.

why doesnt it? im arguing that theres more selection WITH third party, hes arguing the console doesnt need third party

doing it any other way would make absolutely no sense.

And to get that 100+ retail games figure you're adding third parties, which defeats the point of the discussion entirely.
Please pay more attention.

Aren't cartridges supposedly very cheap anyway, not much more expensive than optical media? Also, Switch it too weak to do anything really meaningful in VR, because it's way too weak even when docked, and it can't be docked when using VR. And that's all assuming the VR rumors are true (which I'm personally assuming are not because of the obvious technical challenges, although realistic graphics aren't necessarily required for VR which should help a good bit).

I agree with the idea you're getting at, but cmon, to say all Nintendo gamers don't care at all about third party games is just silly. I bet many 3DS owners also have a PS4/XB1/PC. I currently don't have any of those, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like it if the Switch got full third party support. More games is always better afterall.
