And you should stop daydreaming so much.

If true, won't sting as much as some people think. The major fans like me are gonna get a Switch at launch and pick it up for that.

If true, i'll bet it'll be because they can't get the game to run close enough to 30fps to be playable, and still run at 720p. The Wii U, and I barked about this back in 2012... they way, way underdelivered in the specs on that system. Third parties had trouble getting PS3 ports to run on that thing.

And if this is true, Nintendo, you better get the news out of the way like right now.  Rip off the band aid, so that come January when you fully unveil the Switch, people have had a month to get over it, and within a few months it'll be mostly forgotten.

I knew the possibility of this was real when the rumors of the game missing the Switch launch started to come out.  The longer BotW comes after Switch's launch, the harder it is to justify a new Wii U physical retail release.  At some point the major retail stores are gonna say "We don't want to order any more Wii U games", if they haven't done so already.  The market has moved on from Wii U.  That's the reality.

They are. Its why they made a tablet with a TV out.

Good thing if they want to sell lots of Switch in the launch year.

At Tonight Show Reggie said that was their first public showing of BOTW on the Switch. If thats the case, then the VGA showing must have been on Wii U.

Not really. a random VGA vid is not a public showing. Debatable I suppose.

That frame rate proves that it's on the Wii u lol

or it was, you know, an earlier build. Or the Switch version is not buttery smooth either. Like, who knows.

We will probably never know either way. Not like it matters. I dont think the WiiU version will be cancelled. But if it does, then.. well ok.

People played the Wii U version at E3 and it had public showings at certain stores where people got hands on with it, we know the VGA version is the Wii U version from looking at the top left hand corner.

Doesn't really matter to me since I'm getting the Switch day 1, but that would really suck for people who don't want the Switch.

If it is true which is doubtful, pretty much that ^

I believe this rumor. Completely. Would not be surprised.

Nintendo has two options, if they indeed need to cancel the Wii U SKU to consolidate resources in the final stretch of BotW development, or because of the framerate, or whatever:

Option A) Announce the cancellation now. Like, this week. Rip the bandage off. People will complain and whine, but by the time of the Switch presentation in January, it will be mostly forgotten, and then you can focus on the positive, which is this amazing game coming out on this amazing-looking system.

Option B) Since BotW is missing the Switch launch anyway, stay mum about it, say nothing, and wait until Switch is out and has been selling well. Once you've built up a base of five million or more Switch units in the spring, put it out there when you finalize BotW launch for summer, that it's only coming to Switch. The risk there is that you knowingly withheld info on the Wii U version from the people that simply don't want a Switch, and were promised a Wii U version.

I would take Option A, but that's just me.

The silver lining here, is that by not having to worry about QA and certification, etc on two SKUs of the game, this change may well allow Nintendo to move up the launch of the game.  People should consider that as well.  Might only help by a few months, but still, I'd rather have this in April or May than June or July.

Forceing Wii U owners to get a switch.... it makes sense for nintendo but... its a sucky thing to do.

If they do this... I'm not buying any Nintendo system. Ever.
