A few years ago you talked about maybe stepping away or possibly retiring. Do you think you'll ever be able to walk away from all this?

There was a misunderstanding around my supposed retirement. Really at the time what we were talking about was giving more opportunity and more leadership opportunity to younger people in the company. So rather than me leading everything we were really expanding that role out to others that had come up within the company. Somehow that got misinterpreted as the fact that I was retiring.

We have these younger people in the company who are taking the lead on Switch development and it's really been them that have put this forward and designed this system. They're the ones that have really shepherded it through the process. Because of that, what it's allowed me to do is focus on other projects like Super Mario Run or the Universal theme park. I'm going to keep looking for these kinds of opportunities where I can do something new and fun.

Sounds like a good thing, hopefully more new IP's on the Switch will be the result of this.

Probably for the best. No offence, but the older types at Nintendo were driving the hardware division down the toilet despite the temporary success of the Wii.

It's time for the old guard to step down. 

Yeah it's better to hand the torch to the young 55 year olds. They know what tha kidz wantz.

I hope this makes Nintendo aware of the flaws of its system compared to its competition (games tied to accounts, no need to rebuy VC games, more online multiplayer games, means of allowing voicechat in game...). As long as they don't charge for the right of playing online, I'm sold.

The old people at nintendo make amazing games, but it's obvious they have hit their prime. Them allowing new people to take the lead with them would be great

Well last time they did, the young people came out with Splatoon which was a pretty crazy success. So giving it to the young people is a pretty good choice and we can already see it from how much of a step up it looks compared to both the wiiU and 3ds

Young or old, just make sure those hands are capable ones.
