Here's something everyone interested in the game [and those who have already played the game] should know:

Thank you for playing Final Fantasy XV. Having shipped five million copies worldwide, Final Fantasy XV was truly able to achieve great results. To the many of you who purchased the game, I would like to express my sincerest thanks.

Currently, I am hearing that an exceedingly large bunch of players around the world are enjoying the game to their heart’s content. All of the staff are truly happy with how content users are with this new way to play Final Fantasy.
As promised from before release, Final Fantasy XV is not going to be released and then that’s the end of it. From here on, we will continue to update the game to provide a richer gameplay experience to players around the world. And as thanks for surpassing five million copies, we decided to strengthen the update plan considerably beyond what we originally planned, and will share a concrete roadmap.
These are short-term, mid-term, and long-term updates separate from the previously reported downloadable content that make the Final Fantasy XV gameplay experience even richer and get you playing longer, together with updates based on requests from players after release, that we will offer free of charge.

Final Fantasy XV Update Roadmap

Short-term goals

First, we will further increase the gameplay satisfaction level of Chapter 13. For that reason, we have already started work on many enhancements, such as significantly enhancing the power of ring magic and so on. We will announce details on these enhancements and when we plan to offer this update at a later time.

Mid-term goals

We will enhance the presentation of the second half of the game, and further enhance the satsifaction level of the story experience. For example, we plan to add event scenes that depict things like, “Why does the character Ravus follow that fate?” Since we’re doing localization work to have voice support in all languages for the the added event scenes, we’re taking this on as a mid-term goal. Project details will be announced once they have been decided.

Long-term goals

We will make important characters that appear in the main story of the game available to use as playable characters. Also, we will consider adding an avatar system to create an original character to play the game. In addition to this, we plan to actively continue updates so that players can enjoy Final Fantasy XV over a long period of time.

Others

Play a new game while carrying over your status from a cleared game. We will offer various items that expand the breadth of gameplay, like for low-level clears and invincible suits. We will increase the font size so that messages are easier to read. We will offer content such as boss battles complete with rewards and achievements, limited time mob hunts, etc. in order for you to enjoy the game live.

It should be noted that the already announced downloadable content will be released as originally planned.

- FFXV Holiday Pack

- FFXV Booster Pack

- FFXV Episode Gladiolus

- FFXV Episode Ignis

- FFXV Episode Prompto

- FFXV Online Expansion Pack: Companion

On behalf of the staff and all players around the world, we hope you will enjoy Final Fantasy XV even more. Thank you for your continued support for Final Fantasy XV and the Final Fantasy series.

FFXV Director Hajime Tabata

This is what has people having bitchfits?! The short-term and mid-term goals are in response to fan feedback, much like Bioware did with Mass Effect 3 except doesn't have any outrage directed at them.

The desire to add other playable characters later on is probably something that they should have done, but you can tell they never wanted to do it. They wanted you to play as Noctis with his 3 friends, but don't really like that with JRPGs apparently (as it's perfectly fine in every WRPG).

I don't see how "People wanted this, so we're going to do it" as an admission of failure or somehow makes the game unfinished.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I don't think they're doing all this just based on gamers feedback. The fact that they're mentioning those plans this quickly after release makes me think they had plans for all this, but had to cut stuff because the higher ups wanted a 2016 release. So they had to focus on the most important aspects and took a gamble with the story parts that were cut, hoping what's left in the game would make sense to most. Tabata mentions that there's already localisation being done for the story elements they have planned. This quickly after release makes it doubtful that they started working on all this based on feedback alone.

I doubt their goals (when achieved) will fix the main issues of the game. They'd have to add substantially more and change a lot of things that are already set in stone. Mass Effect 3 "only" had an ending with many issues and Bioware wasn't able to fix that either; they weren't even close but I do welcome their commitment (both Square Enix and Bioware).

Considering that, I don't agree with calling FF15 an early access title. The game won't fundamentally change; a few added tidbits here and there would make the game a bit more enjoyable and bearable but that's it. Square Enix let us pay full price for (edit: a) polished game with flaws, flaws like any other game has.

Yes and No. I Remember reading in one of tabata's interview about the change, he said that square wanted to make changes in the way final fantasy games are developed, like eliminating hierarchy withing the team (refering it to as Final Fantasy Diseases) and also make the story which was spanning over three games to be told in one single entry.  So I assume it was tabata's decision to axe out the story of Insomnia invasion and dumb down levianthan fight, and the strange thing is that both of those sequence were up and running and were demoed in 2013. So in the process of condesing the story tabata took this short cut, instead of giving us 70+ hr game he made a 25 hrs game.

Also I loved Luna, but she was downplayed tremendously which only goes to show that stella's story arc was so essential to the story line that the final image (if u have finsihed the game) just completely loose its impact and falls apart. The bottomline is I think Nomura and Nojima story was more focused on love story, and tabata is focused on Friendship.

Tabata didn't write the story of FF XV. Saori Itamuro wrote the scenario based on the original draft by Nojima.  And according to Shimomura herself: "The basic scenario and story concepts haven't changed that much. They're quite similar to what they were originally. There have been some changes, small scenario tweaks and the game's functionality itself has changed."

There's so much bullshit being spread left and right about the production of the game. Yet nobody know a single thing about what changes were truly made, when they were made, and who made them. And people also talk as if Tabata did everything himself. He's the director, but that doesn't mean he is the only creative force behind and driving the game. -____-

Ok so you are the expert in the fabulanova crystalis mythos and the versus XIII development??. Where did i mention or imply that Tabata wrote the story! he just made changes to things which he saw fit would help tell the story in a single game and those changes are bullshit, and yes The basic Story "concept" and scenario's havent changed of course it hasn't, it was always about the last king reclaiming his throne, but it was also about choosing it over love.

And about knowing nothing as to what was removed from the game and those "minor changes", which you say were tweaked were the removal of the entire Insomnia crown city, treaty-signing between Lucis and Niflheim (noctis meeting stella for the first time, but was included Kingsglaive ), Kings Regis still being alive during the summoning at altissia, not to mention how useless cor was it was clear that his plot was cut out too, Ravus arc was dumbed down too which was expected as stella was axed from the game. And these info's are all from ATR, Jump Festa, TGS, Famitsu articles and various Nomura interview among them of course the trailers which I have been following since the game was announced back in 2006.

Also Nojima story wasnt a draft it was complete, he was also the scenario writer on versus 13, but was replaced by Itamuro because changes needed to be made in order to bring it up to a mainline final fantasy and make it in one single game.

PS - The entirity of last years Dawn trailer has been omited from the game.

If you knew anything about the project, you'd know that most of the things you talk about and attribute to "Nomura's vision" were only used in concept material and got through many changes by Nomura himself. As for the rest, there's just so much BS in there that you take for granted despite not having anything from Nomura that backs it. You call your own interpretations and fantasies as facts.

You looked at concept footage of Versus XIII and ended up extrapolating, theorizing and ultimately fantasizing in your head what all of it could be. But Nomura wasn't going to make the FF you had in your head. Sorry.

Doesn't really mean anything. They're still working on the character episodes which means that there's going to be a lot of localization and dialogue needed anyways. I think they've been hypersenstive to feedback as they even borthered to release a large update to a demo. How many games have a 2.0 update to a demo?

Developers typically have changes in the works already before a game even launches as these things take time to balance. Also fan feedback plays a role in what may or may not be tweaked and changed.

Seems extremely standard stuff is going on here. If you want to reduce it to the most basic form you could say pretty much every game is an early access game.

again as i said these are not based on rumors, go look it up for many nomura's interview in famitsu mags and various jap events over 7 to 8 years there are lot of info dumps on characters and story by him, nojima and other staff during the launch of Final Fantasy 13 and various versus 13 trailers events (there was a strong community @ novacrystallis.com dont know if the site is still there or not, but that was one place where every japnese interviews about the games development got published) So if you lack knowledge or skipped on info about the games development, doesnt mean that everyone is theorizing or fantazising. And also no one gets excited about by envisioning an entire game in their head, there is a reason a concept and a trailer is shown for a movie or a game to sell you an idea. And I was sold on the idea of Final Fantasy Versus trailers, I was also sold on FFXV omen trailer which showed me that not all was lost, Noctis could be evil and maybe luna would have significant story. But hey! guess what? the things which I envisioned when Tabata announced those changes affected the game exactly the way i expected it.

Also there are way more gameplay video's of versus running and showing exactly what concept showed in 2006, even during Final Fantasy XV 2013 e3 anouncment and multiple gameplay's which followed that year was exactly what I was expecting. And staying on the theoriszing and fantazing topic  majority of the theories about the story was right, but wasnt included in the game, instead it was shoved into kingsglaive... spoilers for kingsglaive.. Instead of Luna and Nyx escaping with the ring from insomnia ... it was noctics and gang escaping the open city of insomnia with the ring this scenario was confirmed by nomura himself. And if you have played the game you and followed its development you would exactly know what was missing from certain section of the and what would have made the game better, especially the last image the logo behind the FFXV title when u see that it was incomplete you would know how big love was suppose to be in this story.

In simple terms nomura wanted it to be a shakespearan tragic story about character's burden and Tabata went ahead and made it a war story with huge plot holes.
