Forums - General - Til when in your culture it`s acceptable to depend on yout parents?

I'm in the US and I get the impression there isn't that much stigma about living at home these days. Also depends on your life situation. I know people that live at home in their 30s, their parents don't mind having them there.

But obviously bringing bitches over is more problematic when you live at home.

I live in Finland, and it's very common to move out as soon as possible, which is often after graduating from secondary education (i.e. upper secondary school or vocational school). That's roughly at the age of 18. Of course there's some variance to this, and some move out earlier, some later. I'm not entirely sure about social acceptance regarding living with your parents, but I think it's thought unconventional and possible looked at a bit oddly if you're living with your parents much longer than what's typical. For example, living with your parents at the age of 25 would probably be considered a bit odd. At 30, you'd probably be considered a loser unless you had a really good reason for living with your parents.

But this is what I see. Upper classes in poorer countries people tend to depend on their parents for longer than for example young adults in 1st world countries like Finland. I mean, how much a brazillian 18 year old would make whitout college level? Around 1000 BRL if he`s lucky and working 44h per week. That`s plan poverty, or at least would be considered so in a 1st world country.

In Poland it's similar to Brasil. It's normal to live with your parents and get money from them till you finish your education, since that's the first moment you can actually get a job that allows you to cover your bills. I think it's plain economics of countries that are poorer than the 1st world, where you can be a waiter or bartender and earn more than college graduates in other countries. All that with prices being disgracefully similar in both groups of countries.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Not the point here, but if prices were similar it would be good already. In Brazil living costs are outright insane , a city like Brasília, São Paulo or Rio can be as expensive as an European capital.

Hmm... So if living is as expensive as in other places... doesn't that mean that the prices are similar? Sorry, can't see any sense in what you've just written

I mean living costs here are on levels of 1st world countries and it being a poor country. And things like food, clothing, leisure, technology and etc are more expensive.

It depends I can really stay with my parents till I am married but I still can support my costs (school, gas, insurance, food etc)

Different culture and different system. Idk much abt brazil but in many 3rd world countries, the govt doesnt provide student loans, and you cant work unless you have a degree. This is defly very different from USA and many other developed countries.

Nevertheless, i think we all can agree that relying on your parents too much is a bad thing to do. Hope you'll be able to make a living soon and make your parents proud

And that's the truth. But I also won't postpone some plans like making my trip to Europe. I'll move out eventually, when I have income enough to keep my current living standard and still can make things like traveling and shopping.

And like. Some friends went to college away from their cities, so their parents pays allowances so they can survive. A friend of mine received 4k BRL and other 6k BRL.

Until college. At that point, you move off to the University to live. Some people stay at home during school, but it's not as highly looked upon. After college, it's absolutely horrible to live with your parents. Good luck finding a good looking woman. Friends will rag on you. It's not accepted.
