Remaster after remaster after remaster after.........

What is this?  Are we in Retrocity where all the heroes wear primary colored spandexes with the letter "R" on their chests?  I've never seen a gen where remasters have taken such a front seat in the gaming industry.  Please don't get me wrong.  I like retro because I'm an older guy, but I'm sort of taken back by all the remasters thus far that has been announced this gen.  But in some ways, it's really worked for me.  For example, never played Last of Us on the PS3, but I just purchased the PS4 remastered version on Black Friday for just $15.  I also only paid $15 for the Uncharted Collection.  But I already have all three PS3 Uncharteds which I paid $20 each while only having played the first one.  So what's another $15?  So I'm not so much against it.  It's just Remasters have been becoming more and more of the norm.

I'm kind of thinking they're a big part of why I only recently got a PS4 and why I still have only two games for it (and I'm not too eager to get many more just yet).

Good games never get old.... and a little polish & shine, and their good as new.
Gives people that might not have had the chance, to get to play them as well.

Well, the gaming scene has become bigger than ever, so it's normal to see remasters and resurgeances of old and classic franchises. The problem is that games from 5-6th generations that need remastering (tons of N64, PS1, PS2 and GC titles) are left out in avour of remastering games from 7th gen to 8th gen with the excuse of improving their graphics. Which most of them don't need that much.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Still plenty of new games for me so not bothered by remasters. Honestly, there have been times where I miss a game and years later play it thanks to a remaster or re-release.

More games = bad. Gotcha.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

There are four types of 'remasters' in my eyes. First are the 5th / 6th gen remasters, which are more like remakes - these can be awesome (Ratchet & Clank) or hit garbage (Silent Hill HD). Done right, they are a much needed face lift and update for modern audiences.

Then there's the "this game ran like dogshit on consoles last gen, so...here it is again!" This can be worth it on a case by case basis, depending on who you are.

Then there's the "the game ran fine on Wii-U, but here's a touched up rerelease for the people who didn't buy that console."

Finally, there's the cash grab. Game ran fine cirst time around, on almost every platform, yet we're getting an Arkham remaster anyway.

Umm, why is it that you're noticing it so late?

I love it. I can´t get enough of it. I want even more. Remake and remaster every single great game ever, I will be happy: Silent Hill, Siren, F-Zero, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Front Mission 1-4, Star Ocean, Legend of Legaia and of the Dragoon, do them all.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Have you ever looked at what the film and TV industry has been doing for decades?. People thrive on nostalgia and the good times. There is a reason why we have old properties brought back for both new and old generations.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
